“A great local restaurant”
Reviewed 4 June 2014 via mobile

Arrived at Crowne Plaza and wanted somewhere close by and non touristy to eat - found this place on Tripadvisor and it turned out to be a great find - most people were locals and the food appeared to be authentic - simple fare and good size portions washed down with big beers - finished off with strudel to die for and cane with a very reasonable cost - well worth looking for in the basement of the Europa building

From the moment we entered and the staff realised we were English we were basically treat like dirt. He was rude unhelpfull and openly talked about us in german in front of our faces, it was like the episode of Fawlty Towers about the germans with the roles reversed which was a shame as to be honest the food was top notch. Like I said good food poor service.

“Great dinner and nice interior”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

We want to eat in a typical German restaurant and decided to eat here. The restaurant is in the basement of the Europa Center but when you enter it you might think you are in a typical Southern German restaurant. The interior is just like a restaurant in the alps. The restaurant isn't expensive but get plenty of food for the price. And the food was good. The service was nice and fast enough. The beers are like Munich: big.

“This place is awesome!!”
Reviewed 27 March 2014

In Berlin for the weekend we found this place on our last night and it was so good we went back for lunch the next day. The food is really hearty, big meat, sausage, sourkraut and gravy. It comes in big helpings and was exactly the type of Bavarian we were hoping for. Service was great and not too expensive. I would go back and you really should try this!!

“Decent food, reasonably priced”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

This visit was not my first here, in fact each time I've been to Berlin I call in for some food... First few times service was excellent, food brilliant and very reasonably priced. This last time however the service did let them down just a little. Not sure if it was because I caught them on a quieter night this time with less staff, but I had to go looking for staff to get a table, but once I'd been sat down, everything ran smoothly. Menus are in English as well as German, and the staff understand enough English to take an order. Didn't feel rushed at all, but they weren't exactly busy this time however not felt rushed any time I've been here, even when they're busy... Staff are also friendly enough and do take pride in their work.

Menu consists of a good range of stereotypical German food and prices are more than reasonable in comparison to other similar places. Wiener schnitzel and a (large) glass of wine came to about €15 with decent-sized portions and delicious and well presented food...

I wouldn't say this place is a must when visiting the city, but if you find yourself with an evening to spare and looking for some decent food, head over there... And once you've soaked up the Bavarian atmosphere, head next door for some Irish hospitality!
