We stayed at pfefferbett earlier this week and it was brilliant. We state in a private double room with en suite and the room was lovely and clean, had a tv and heaters. The staff were friendly and the lobby with the open fire was an unexpected treat. The only downside was the breakfast. We arrived down about 10 and there was nothing left other than some cereal, peppers and bread which was slightly disappointing but not enough to dampen a great stay :). Great area too, highly recommended.

Train problems got me into Berlin later than expected, plus it was cold, plus it was raining. So I ended up just going straight to the hostel and staying put for the night. I met a few cool people, and watched the band that was playing in the lobby. The kitchen and bar in the lobby were also great, and the staff was helpful and accommodating.

My experience at pfefferbett hostel was shocking, not only are the staff are very rude and unhelpful.

Our group was expected to share a dormitory room with both a man using hard drugs and a mother and her baby. Staff could not understand why we didn't want to stay in that room.

Worst hostel experience I have had.

If you want to say in this area of Berlin, Use the meininger hostel over the road, it cheaper and a lot better.

First of all we would like to thank you for taking the time to share your impressions.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience you experienced at our hostel.

We are always open to face criticism anytime and try to obtain a better understanding. As there is learning from everything, we went through all the delivered information to improve our services.
Especially your comment on the treat and behavior of our front office staff was discussed with the according manager:
It is our primary concern to make our guests feel welcome and appreciated. If we were not able to transport the feeling of hospitality, we really need to apologize.

We honestly regret that you had a bad experience with one of your room mates.
We clearly militate against drug abuse and the usage is strictly forbidden as per house rules.

We understand, somehow, that you felt bothered by a young mother and its 12 years old child.

After your complaint we gave you the possibility to cancel your booking for free and to help you to find another adequate hostel.

Moreover, please allow us to call to your attention that you have decided yourself to book a dorm in a hostel which may mean that you share privacy with people who are different or may have other needs.

Once again we would like to thank you for making us aware of the difficulties you experienced.

-Hotel + Hostel = Not a hotel and not a hostel
-No Internet in rooms. (Slow WIFI connection in the noisy lobby)
-No kitchen for guests.
-Not close to shopping centers
-
-Not friendly crew.
-I do not recommend that place to anybody.

Location is decent but not too central, 15-20 minute walk from the main shops/tourist attractions. I wouldn't bother walking to the main area for bars/clubs as it is too far away.

The value of the hostel was not great at all, quite pricey in comparison to others. The hostel has a very commercial feel to it. Everything has to be paid for. You must pay 2 euros to rent a towel, 5 euros just to use the washing machine, 1 euro 70 for a cup of tea. There are no facilities that are simply free to use. The drinks at the bar were also quite pricey, 3 euro 70 for a bottle of Berliner Pilsner.

The hostel has a vibe that is very similar to a sixth form college in the UK. There are decent facilities with regards to outside seating, both in the front and back of the hostel. There is a table tennis table in the front, a deposit is required to use this which is fair enough. Bicycles can be rented at a price of 10 euros per day with a 50 euro deposit on each bike.

We stayed in a four person private room with an en suite, which was incredibly basic. There were four beds and two chairs in the room, and that is all. I have been looking through pictures showing stereos, TVs etc but our room was very basic facility-wise. Our room was at the front of the hostel, and a lot of light came in as the curtains are too small and thin.

The bathroom was very basic, there is no hand wash or any other small touches that you might find in other hostels. The cleanliness of both the room and the hostel in general cannot be faulted whatsoever, everything is very clean and fresh looking. The rooms do seem soundproofed which is a nice bonus.

The staff were quite friendly and helpful in general.

All in all, a very commercial feel to this hostel. It was not informal at all in the way it is ran, very money-orientated. Very clean and very basic, especially given that this hostel is pricey in my opinion, and does not have a fantastic location. Would not be returning.

Room Tip: There is no choice of rooms, you get what you are given.

I was pretty impressed by this place. I stayed in a single room and was surprised by how big it was-it had a huge bathroom and even a TV! Much more hotel feeling than hostel. The location is great and for the most part pretty quiet, though in the morning my room was right next to the luggage room and supply closet for the staff so the noise was a little annoying. You wouldn't have this problem on another floor. Staff was friendly, wifi good and breakfast was standard German. Overall I would recommend this place.
