This was our favourite hotel we stayed in during our honeymoon. Staff at the front desk were excellent, with in depth knowledge of the local streets and wider Berlin no problem. Our room was gorgeous, I loved the attention to detail in the decorating. Bed was super comfy, and loved popping down to the restaurant for real milk to put in our tea, no fake milk in tiny containers to be seen. If the organic breakfast buffet on offer is a little too healthy for you, pop across the road to 'Back Factory' for cheap as chips pastries and sandwiches in the morning.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. We arrived early and were lucky to get a room right away. It was located on the 4th floor which was doubly lucky, because the only negative with this hotel is that it is located on a noisy street corner, so the higher up you are, the better you sleep. And we really did sleep well in the comfortable bed. We shut the windows and turned on the fan. This worked out well. The room itself was small but efficient. Loved the decor. The shower was really a wet room with a glass wall and a huge shower head. Really funky. Everything was spotless and worked well. The staff were super friendly and very efficient. They gave us the impression that they loved working at the hotel and they always had great suggestions of where to eat and what to do. I loved the dining room. I only ate breakfast there, but it was fab. We took the Berlin walking tour suggested by the hotel. It was a steal at 15 Euros. We absolutely loved it. You really need to try it, but beware, it lasts all day and you walk all over Berlin. All in all, this hotel really does live up to all the hype. I absolutely loved every minute of my stay there.

Spent a couple of nights there and was amazed at the level of service and just how friendly the staff are.

Asked to borrow a laptop, no problem, print off our airport boarding passes, no problem, a brolley, no problem.

I actually felt like if you asked for something they would assist. We paid for breakfast in the morning at 8 euros per

person which was really good in value and in selection of products, cereals, jams, cheese, cold cuts, juices, fruit,

hard boiled eggs, bread, white, brown, seeded etc. You could ask the kitchen staff if you preferred something cooked.

My wife and myself had a room on the third floor overlooking the busy street outside and my son and his partner

and grandson had a room on the second floor. The rooms were spotless and decorated differently, i thought at first

we might struggle to sleep with the amount of traffic at night, it never caused a problem and in fact it was good

looking out and seeing all that was going on. The roof terrace was open and you could enjoy a beer and pay in an

honesty box. The rooms at the back look on to the courtyard and would be ideal if you really want peace and quiet.

The underground is just outside the hotel entrance and we used this with no problems. We hope to visit Berlin again

and the Circus Hotel will be top of the list.

Room Tip: We were in room 314 on the third floor and you got a great view of the street below, if you want pea...

Stayed 4 nights at this hotel and loved it. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere in reception / bar/ dining areas, great to have a coffee and people watch.Very clean room with good bathroom area.
Asked Reception for a kettle, which they provided, plus cups and spoons but needed to provide own tea and coffee, no problem as we were aware of this when booking.
We chose a high floor room overlooking the road, you do get traffic noise, which we knew, but the soundproofing was excellent and a fan was provided, tho' it could probably get pretty hot in Summer.
Excellent location for public transport, tho' we walked to most of the sights. Food in hotel restaurant looked very good tho' we ate out at night as we like to try the local restaurants.
Booked the hotel over the phone and received excellent service. Staff all speak English and offer advice about places to vist and transport to airport.

My husband and I just returned from our first trip to Berlin. We stayed a total of seven nights at the Circus Hotel and were completely happy with our experience there. All of the staff were amazingly helpful and knowledgeable. The accommodations were comfortable and affordable. The location was incredible. We were able to walk to so many of the places we wanted to visit.
What really set this hotel experience above most others was the spirit there. The moving history of the Fabisch family is so thoughtfully expressed. The wonderful programs that are made available to guests really enhanced our experience, especially the "Living Witness" talk and the rooftop yoga class. Even the well written Circus magazine had fabulous recommendations for walking tours, shops, restaurants and so much more. We can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to all travelers, but especially those that are looking for a deeper experience of the complex and ever-changing city of Berlin. Thanks to all at the Circus Hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not facing the front of the hotel for a quieter experience.

My rating of a “4” breaks with most previous reviewers. Notwithstanding the good location of the hotel and its delightful, warm and trendy “coffee shop” style reception/breakfast area, plus incredibly friendly and helpful front desk team, the rating reflects three factors:

1. Absence of certain room basics
2. Some missing guest services
3. Chaotic reception area during check-in

Room basics

• There is unfortunately no tea/coffee making facilities in the room (so you will have to spend three euros in the cafe downstairs instead)
• There is no any fridge or mini bar, which is just irritating for a leisure visitor looking to eg store some fresh produce
• Despite asking for a quiet room at the back of the hotel when making the booking, be aware that the back courtyard turns into a noisy bar, with loud music, which will keep you awake due to the live band until at least 1 am on Fridays and Sundays. Other reviewers have commented on the noise in the front rooms from the passing trams.
• Two of the three sockets in the room wouldn’t accept an adaptor plug (apparently the hotel is aware of this problem)
• Although there is a socket in the safe (for recharging a laptop), it is jammed at the back of the top of the safe, so impossible to use if you also need an adapter
• The back of the bed is against the desk – so there is no way of sitting up in bed to read a book (see photo)
• The room layout is bizarre – the bed is in the middle of the room, reducing the feel of space
• There is no face flannel in the bathroom
• There are no tissues
• Although you can get a tube of shower gel and shampoo from the check-in area , it would also be good to have hair conditioning as well. Don’t forget to get your tube when you check-in .... when you are soaking wet and in the shower it will be too late to say “where is the shampoo?”!
• Stingy with the towels – if you accidentally leave a wet/dirty towel on the rack it will not be replaced for the next day. This is under the pre-text of sustainability.
• The duvet in the room was very crumpled when I walked in ..... not smoothed out (giving a feel of lack of attention)
• The desk is very cluttered – eg a fan, desk light, water jug; the desk chair is cheap plastic and very uncomfortable
• No index of the TV channels/TV guide in the room
• There is no air conditioning – be wary if you travel during a hot period
• Within the hotel, you will find that doors along the corridor slam shut with an amazing amount of noise. Be prepared to be woken up during the night if your neighbours are late-night owls

Missing facilities

Sadly there is no gym/fitness equipment – surely it would not be difficult to allocate a small area of the hotel for a treadmill and some weights?

The wi-fi in the room was terrible; it cut out every 1 to 2 minutes, requiring re-registration. Unfortunately this is the worst hotel wi-fi I have experienced over the last couple of years. (Wi-fi is free however).

I went down to breakfast, but then passed as it was predominantly high fat processed meats, high fat cheese, mayonnaise with a bit of tuna, fruit in a sugary liquid, and cereals that the milk turn brown. The breads looked good and there were also boiled eggs. However, the cup of coffee which I had in the breakfast room on another occasion was delicious.

Reception area

The check-in area when I arrived was really quite chaotic. Check-in is at 2 pm; but when I arrived at 1 pm the receptionist said the room should be ready within 15 minutes, so rather than leave my bag to then get on with my day, I hung around at the hotel waiting. Eventually, I got into the room about two hours later. Lots of people seemed to be waiting for their rooms in reception. Closer co-ordination between reception and housekeeping would have sorted this problem out.

They also had a sign out on the desk, suggesting that guests check-out the evening before departure, to avoid over-crowding and a long wait in the morning. Whilst they reception team themselves were charming and delightful, the world renowned and famed German efficiency seemed to be somewhat missing here.

* * *

Small gripes aside, assuming you can deal with some room noise, the convenient location of the Circus and its truly awesome front desk team will probably make up for having no tea/coffee making facilities and fridge.

But I think there are some great deals to be found on Berlin accommodation if you shop around.
