“Great base for exploring Berlin”
Reviewed 25 February 2010

Good location in Mitte (right on the U-bahn) warm, clean, welcoming and with very helfpul staff, we really enjoyed our stay in the Circus Hotel. The junior suite was well appointed with a comfy bed and an ipod docking station/radio. We rented discount travel passes. They made everything very straightforward. We only found one downside: there was only one credit card terminal for paying at checkout, so we had to wait about 20 minutes in reception before leaving, so in future I'd pay the night before if possible.

We found the hotel through lonely planet & trip advisor.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with the location of the Hotel - right beside the U-Bahn (underground).
The hotel is very modern, with extremely helpful, friendly staff. A large open reception area welcomes you to the hotel with english speaking staff full of helpful tips for navigating the city.
The hotel Bar/restaurant area is well adorned with unusual furniture & paintings. Very chilled out music welcomes you back to the hotel for an evening drink!
The Rooms are a little small, but very comfortable with a spacious bathroom and window overlooking the central terrace.
Overall the Circus Hotel comes highly recommended for centrality, amenities and friendliness.

The size of the room may not be very big, but it is simple and practically designed which we found it very cozy. The bathroom is not only modern but spacious too with big windows overlooking the hotel court yark. The inhouse cafe/restaurant is a great place to relax at the end of the day. The breakfast buffet was good quality and very healthy, but wish they can include some hot stuff too (instead of having to order them as extras). The services at the reception is always courteous and informative - cannot ask for better! There is a spare laptop can be borrowed if you need. The location is easy to get around day and night. Sometime, instead of taking the subway at the front door to Alexanderplatz, we just took a stroll down the different streets (all toward the Alexanderplatz direction), and in 15 mins we would be at the square. From there, you can take various hop-on-hop-off buses to tour around Berlin. We will certain visit this hotel again next time in Berlin.

From the moment that we arrived to the time of our departure, we enjoyed ourselves immensely. The staff everywhere (reception, bar, breakfast, restaurant, cleaning) were very friendly and helpful. And they all smiled a lot. The food in the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was plentiful and healthy. The room (309) that we stayed in was small but you would not notice it because they had used the small space to its best advantage. The bathroom was spotless and the shower unit was very relaxing after a days sightseeing. Our room faced onto the front of the hotel and all the traffic passed through the 5 road crossing. However, the traffic noise didn't bother us because the double-glazed windows muted all the noise. The place was full (film festival) and breakfast was from 7 am to 1 pm: very sensible. The staff on reception (Keimha, Torstan come to mind) went out of their way to help us with directions, reservations, and helpful hints on what to do and where to go. Printed directions in english if necessary. We did not speak german but that was never a problem in the Circus because all the staff seemed to speak many languages and came from all over the world. One of the barmen is from Washinton and is the spitting image of Woody Allen. I cannot comment on any other hotels in Berlin but the Circus Hotel must be setting and keeping the highest standards for all the others.

Reasons to stay here:
- The hotel is in an excellent location. It has a U stop right outside the door. It's close enough to walk to the main attractions if you want and has lots of nice restaurants near by!
- The excellent service. Everyone on reception was happy to oblige with any request- saw other guests borrowing items such as plug adaptors etc at reception. They can provide you with day passes for 4Euros a day rather than 6 odd Euros on the undergrounds and trains which we used for 2 days. When we were checking out we asked how far it was to schoenfeld airport and they provided us with a printout detailing exactly what trains to get at what time and what platform. Very helpful!
-The rooms- very high quality for an excellent and very fair price! Ours was spacious had nice furniture and was permenantly warm- very important if you are in Berlin in February. And the shower....amazing. Just what you want after a day of sightseeing in the snow!!
The only downside of this room was the noisy tram line just outside our window. But i'm a light sleeper so this affected me probably more than it would the average person. However the excellent quality of the room/hotel far outweigh this small criticism.

And a little extra...
-Look at the information printouts in your room on your arrival. We went to a really really nice and very reasonable japanese noodel restaurant (Makoto or something like that) they reccomended in the prinout. And it was really close by (5ish mins walk)...also another fantastic restaurant we discovered was about 3 doors down from the japanese place on the same road just on the corner. It does mainly pasta and it was the best pasta me and my boyfriend have ever had. Delicious and very reasonable.
- If you enquire to stay here and they say theyre full keep trying. They had 2 of our 3 nights free but I kept enquiring and we managed to get a booking for the 3rd night after someone cancelled. It was worth all the emails, enquiries etc! I think this is a very buys hotel so book early if possible.

We had the Junior Suite for 3 nights in august.

The room and bathroom was very nice, but the highlight was the big balcony. Since the junior suite had free room-service we used the balcony both for drinks and dinner.

The staff were very sweet and helpful, and the location is great!
