Berlin? The 3 star way? This is a great little hotel if you'd like to see an alternative part of Berlin, near the old jewish area, surrounded by curiosity shops, chilled out bars and yes, even industrial alternative bars.

The hotel reception very friendly. The room just fantastic. Didn't eat breakfast there but had a spot of dinner which was fine (only negative was unfriendly bar staff).

So if you fancy 2 nights in Berlin, in a wonderful unusual location with great nightlife...this is the place for you.

Recently stayed in Hotel Amano and rented the XL Apt, which is a 2 bedroom. The place was immaculate and so spacious. I couldn't have asked for a better hotel...the wasn't too expensive either. There were places to eat right in the neighborhood and it was close to the U Bahn. I would definitely stay here again.

I stayed here for 5nights with my boyfriend. I was a little hesitant due to te reviews I had read but there was no need. The hotel was brilliant, the room was cleaned everyday and we where given fresh towels. The staff couldnt have been more helpful!! They where very friendly, suggested places to see and told us how to get there.

It's a 10min walk to the main alexanderplatz station but there is a u-bahn station just outside the hotel.

I would recommend this hotel to everyone!!

The East Side of the 'New Berlin' is a buzzy place with lots of cutting-edge bars, art galleries and boutiques set amongst the existing seedy buildings (some of which don't seem to have been touched since WW2. The Amano seems to be a series of recently refurbished large buildings done up in a modern, almost Scandinavian style. Very minimalist rooms (some of which are quite tiny) in contrast to the up market lobby area. Compared to similar hotels on the West side it seems good value. No extras in the room, no turn down service, one chair, intermittent (free) wifi, wooden floors. We stayed 5 nights -oddly enough the room rate seems to change daily, with weekends more expensive (one night we paid only euros 100 and the highest was euros 125). For that length of stay we should have booked the apartments which are a bit dearer but with much more space.
Great location near the underground and trams (bit too close to the trams which run along the side road - ask for a rear facing room). No upscale restaurants nearby but plenty of interesting place to eat and drink in the neighborhood. Good breakfast in the hotel but you can eat as well for half the price nearby, eg Bagel House.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter. Ask for an apartment if you are a family or a corner room if a couple...

I stayed here with a group of 13 others during a weekend in May. Reception looks very smart and check in was efficient. Surprised at how small the room was, although the shower was huge and bathroom clean. I haven't slept in a bed that small since I was about 12, but it was comfy enough. I liked the day glow cubby holes next to the bed which you could see in the dark. All in all the room was very clean but gave the impression of a posh hostel. One of our party had to stay in a room on their own after a no show and I was saddened to learn he had to pay for 2 breakfasts despite being in there on his own since the room was booked as double occupancy, Especially since breakfast was abit of a non event and well over priced, I thought that was a bit mean. None of us were impressed when it came to settling our bill as with all thought it was far too much for the standard of hotel.

Huge bathroom. Great view on the street and the opposite female gym, with windows all around the room. Very helpful staff. A bit buzzing atmosphere in the lobby, but pleasantly buzzing.

I would gladly stay here again.

We stayed at the Amano for four nights during the Christmas markets and we were pleasantly surprised how 'upmarket' it was for a budget no frills hotel. The foyer is very welcoming and looked particularly impressive with the big Christmas tree and lights. The rooms are on the small side and there are absolutely no extras such as drink making facilities/fridge/toiletries etc., (there was a safe) however there was a very well stocked vending machine on the ground floor. The beds were very comfortable but unfortunately I did not get on with the pillow which was an awkward size and bumpy, the staff did try their best to help me at midnight when I finally caved in and visited reception in my PJ's - they could not find me another pillow so we had to improvise with some cusions. A big plus was the hiring out of xbox/games & portable CD players/movies - this came in very handy for our two teens that got a little tired of sightseeing, and the wifi was inexpensive and worked fine for what we needed (just basic email checking and facebook). We were more than happy with the breakfast buffet and thought they offered a wide selection of different foods both hot and cold including a great selection of different hot and cold drinks, it was a very busy time of the year though so timing was important if you didn't want to wait for a table. The bar adjoining the hotel was very nice although it appeared to appeal to a younger set (25-35) and we do not smoke so unfortunately it was not possible to sit there for too long. The staff throughout the hotel were very helpful and accommodating and the hotel is well situated for getting around. If we went back to Berlin we would stay there again.
