The service at the Michelberger was amazing. I was delayed and they let my partner check-in under my name easily. I got the single room and it was compact but very unique, free wireless, and a flatscreen TV. It had everything a young couple needed to start sightseeing in Berlin and beyond.

The location is a two minute walk away from the train station. In a few stops you are at the heart of Berlin, and Potsdam is a short hop away. In one day we hit the Brandeburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, museums, looked at the river Spree, did some local dining, and rode the train back to the room and still had time to go for a drink downstairs at the wine bar/cafe and some conversation at the lounge. Very convenient.

The location is absolutely the best part of this hotel. What I liked least was not having a phone in the room. I recommend bringing a laptop and using a Skype account. Problem solved.

This is a wonderful, magical place. All the staff look after you, they are very kind and will make every effort to make you feel at home. You can have a coffee, a reviving herbal tea or a beautiful amazing cocktail; you can drink it in the lovely 50's themed lounge or in the cool courtyard or up in your room. The breakfast is delicious and you can pig out on the lovely cheeses and hams and pastries and the amazing home-made German breads. I only stayed for 4 days and wish I could have stayed a lot longer; the atmosphere on Friday and Saturday night was fantastic, with many people enjoying the lounge, the majority were probably not residents. The rooms are different from the rest, interesting, with personality and wit. Definitely not your average corporate hotel, I highly recommend the MIchelbergers' as they made me have a wonderful break... will come back soon!

The Michelberger is an interesting independent hotel with a very strong DIY aesthetic catering to the 'hipster' crowd. Stayed in the smaller double room which had some interesting touches like a window between the shower and the bed. The bathroom itself is quite small and the shower and toilet are separated by a opaque plastic divider suspended by climbing rope. Free wi-fi though you need to get a new password every day. The large windows open but can be drafty in the winter. Bustling lounge area and restaurant.

Location wise it is literally across the street from Warschauerstrasse station which has both a U-bahn and S-bahn stop. Nothing terribly interesting in the immediate vicinity, although great little restaurants and the east side gallery (murals on the Wall) are a short walk away.

The Michelberger will never get written up in a CondeNast or something like that but its got its own charm and is a great alternative to some generic chain hotel at the same price point. If you've been to an Ace Hotel in the US you'll know what you're in for.

Great hotel, great staff, great rooms. The hotel is ideally located near several public transportation options. It takes about 30 min from Tegel to the hotel.

The lobby and rooms are funky, but very comfortable. We booked a loft room and slept like little kittens between the comfortable sheets and on a very great mattress.

There is a small coffeeshop down the block and a large supermarket just over the bridge. There are also multiple kabob shops to choose from. We loved the various bars and clubs in the area.
