I recently stayed at this Adina hotel in Berlin with my sister and boyfriend on our travels through Europe and would have loved to have given it a higher rating. Unfortunately, certain members of the reception team spoiled my entire experience.
On a positive note, we found the location and hotel facilities to be very convenient and of a high standard. It was centrally located in Mitte (although quite dead at night) and well serviced by public transport. We used they local supermarket, which is similar to Aldi so make sure you have a bag for any purchases! The pool and sauna facilities were excellent although the light switch to the sauna is around the corner and we accidentally pressed the alarm switch in the dark. The bar and restaurant were convenient although overpriced for Berlin. The rooms were clean and spacious but the sofa bed in our room was broken and sagged in the middle and was extremely uncomfortable for my sister who slept in it. Considering the price, you could have a proper bed and unlimited wifi in your room at a hostel or comparable hotel facility. Instead you pay a minimum of €3.50 in your room or have access to the wifi password in the lobby for an hour.
The female manager at the reception desk was polite and friendly along with a young dark haired man who seemed to be relatively new. One bald gentleman whose name I recorded, was cold and abrupt towards us throughout the entire stay with Adina, anytime that we had a question or concern. Another young blond gentleman, who I assume is the same person referred to in the review on here from three weeks earlier, also had a similar attitude. We ensured that we asked permission before accessing the hotel's facilities, particularly in arranging a late checkout and when leaving our luggage with the reception team and printing out travel documents due to a late flight, but were made to feel like an inconvenience and as if we were doing the wrong thing. When we returned to the hotel to collect our luggage and travel to the airport this bald gentleman and young blond gentleman were seen and overheard to be making fun of us and our luggage. Laughing, gesturing and giving sarcastic 'good byes' obviously assuming that we could not understand them. I found this extremely offensive particularly as I was standing right beside them at the desk and it really dampened my view of the hotel and short time in Berlin. I wish I had asked the staff what the problem was before I left.
We were really excited to stay at this hotel, especially as we were homesick Australians and appreciated the small Australian details! However, we felt wholly unwelcome by members of staff at this hotel.
