The space is beautiful but I found the orientation quite confusing- it feels like they put very different pieces in the same room- ancient roman, greek and egyptian all together.

As most of the text was in German I may have missed some of the subtlety in how they have curated the pieces.

I had only seen pictures of the bust of Queen Nefertiti, it was truly spectacular in person. This is an excellent museum as are all on Museum Island.

I came to the museum for the egyptian collection. Of course seeing Nefertiti was amazing and she has her own room now, no photos allowed! Well worth seeing. There is a large collection and it is all very beautifully laid out and interesting. The only thing that put me off was the staff, who were rather rude about me going in with my bag and jacket and will eventually direct you to the free cloakroom, and continue to stalk you around the museum to the point where it is a distraction.

do not miss this jewel of a museum. even if you are not that interested in seeing the world famous bust of queen nefertiti, just go for the amazing architecture of the rooms. new and old combined, it's something else, a trip to wonderland. the architect david chipperfield created a work of art with the stunning reconstruction of this majestic building.

be sure to take the very informative audioguide and put your coat in a locker, it is not permitted to carry your winter clothes on your arms.

also, take a break and enjoy an egyptian coffee in the lovely allegretto café of the museum.

I loved this museum. Lots of really interesting artifacts and ancient writings. There is an English audio guide, which was very informative. Nerfertiti's bust is just spectacular in person. Highly recommended.
