We stayed twice at this hotel on the same trip, in two different rooms. The first issue we encountered was that one needed to go up a bunch of stairs just to get to the elevator. After checking in, we were taken to a room on the top/attic floor, which is a floor up from the reception. No elevator leads there and we needed to climb a narrow spiral staircase, without anyone helping us with bags. This did not seem at all strange to the hotel staff. The room was very small for three people and didn't have a tea kettle.

Based on that experience alone I would've given the hotel a 1/5, but things started to improve from there and overall I can say that it's quite a good hotel which gives good value for its money. First of all, the breakfast is excellent and comes free, which does not appear to be common in Berlin. Most of the staff was very helpful (be aware that not all of them speak English! We spoke Russian with the staff), and helped us find some nearby locations in Berlin.

In general, the location of the hotel could scarcely be better—it's a 5-minute walk from the Zoo station, which has a direct railway line to/from the airport, as well as U-Bahn and S-Bahn lines to various parts of the city. Another U-Bahn line (U9) also has an adjacent station. The Zoo station area is also itself a central location with many shops and restaurants, including a supermarket.

The best part was coming back the second time: we finally got a room on the same floor as the reception, and it was worlds apart from the first room. It was much bigger, had a tea kettle, and most importantly, didn't require climbing the dreaded staircase. Really no complaints about that second room.

Another inconvenience might be that they don't have a dedicated storage room and will store your bags in a makeshift location if you ask. This does not inspire confidence, and will get you searched at the airport (flying to USA or Israel, for example) if you're honest about it when they ask where your bags were.

Room Tip: Avoid the top floor/attic. Try to ask in advance if a room on the reception floor or lower is availa...

I had a 2 night stay here and the experience was great ! The location is really good cause it was just at the city centre and the restaurant downstairs serves awesome pork knuckles and beer ! The room was very clean and neat, the bathroom was huge and also again, very clean and beautiful and facilities were all Grohe, which is superb! The room was fairly big for the 3 of us. The counter staff spoke really good English and he was so helpful ! The hotel staff are very helpful as well he helped us with our luggage when we had difficulty dragging it up the stairs. The breakfast was very generous with loads of breads, cereals, spreads, ham, sausage and drinks ! If I were to go Berlin again I would definitely stay here !

My experience at The Upper Room was not good. The room we were given was very very small, the beds were up against the wall and there was a chair in the middle of the beds meaning we could not walk between them without climbing over the chair. I really don’t think it was suitable for 2 adults and therefore I asked if they had any other rooms available and the was quite rude to me and only upon asking if the manager was available did he let me know that there was an alternative room. The bedsheets had holes in and the curtains were stained. I would describe this more as a hostel than hotel.

Actually staying here as I type, a beautiful rambling old building right in the heart of Berlin. The entrance is stunning, classic old German that looks amazing when the sun shines through the windows over the door.

The guy at the desk was super friendly, and spoke flawless English, which was just as well as I arrived hot, flustered and tired... The room is fairly small, but really nice, and let's face it, this is Berlin, who wants to sit in a hotel room! The bathroom is fantastic, even nice touches like shower gel and hand wash stuff ready for you (and it smells nice!).

The breakfast was pretty damned good too, loads of nice veggie stuff and very good orange juice. There is a felafel shop right outside the hotel and a really good Italian place a couple of doors up, and the Irish Bar in the Europa centre is an easy stagger!

At this price you'll never get anything better near Ku'damm, Ask for room 115, nice and quiet round the back of the building but with the window open nice and airy.

Room Tip: I had a room at the back overlooking a courtyard, nice and quite!

It is the third time I stayed in this hotel and I will again when I am in Berlin. Fantastic location just few steps from Kudam- main shopping street in front of Gedachtniss Kirche. Nice rooms, good breakfast, helpful staff. The only minus is tht you have to carry suitcase to the lift and again from the lift to the level of hotel which is situated on the 3 rd , 4 th and 5 th floor of a nice old building.Price is really very good in relation to quality of their offer.

It was a bit tough for us to bring up heavy travel suitcase to the floor. But other services like comfort at room, breakfast are nice and acceptable. And hotel staffs are friendly supportive to guests.
If I have a chance to visit Berlin again, I would like to stay at this hotel again.

Such a good value for money! Central location, very close to the underground station, easy access to any part of Berlin.

Amazing breakfast. So much variety and such tasty food! You wouldn't expect to get smoked salmon in a 3-star hotel, would you? But here you do! What about champagne? Yes, even champagne!

The room was very clean, except the carpet that had a few stains and it did not look that good. Our towels were changed on a daily basis. Our beds were made by the room attendants every day. Very friendly and very helpful staff in general.

Good luck in finding the hotel. It might be a bit tricky! There's no big front sign or something like that. There's this building that seems to have lots of offices inside and the hotel is on the top floor.
