We had a great stay here! We have 2 adults and 1 child but our room had two twin beds together and 2 sets of bunk beds. Room was sparsely decorated/furnished but huge and clean. We had a private bath in room. The shower and the toilet had seperate doors inside the room. Couldn't hear anything through walls between rooms but could hear through our door. We put one of the extra comforters on the floor at the bottom of the door and that muffled some of the noise. The only night it was a little loud was Saturday but the lounge/bar was packed with people/tour groups so it was to be expected. Sunday morning the breakfast room (4 euros for adults/2 euros for kids) was packed. Weekdays it was close to empty. They gave each guest a coupon for a welcome drink (beer, champagne, shot or OJ) on arrival and there is a bar in the reception area and on the 5th floor. The drinks (I had a Pitu-rinha/5 euros) were great! The had pizza, ice cream and other snacks available for cheap at the reception area bar. The people at the counter were extremely helpful with figuring out public transportation and other questions. They had some parking (7.50 euros/day), not much, but if we were able to get a parking spot on a Sat night I think other times it would be fine. It was about a 10 min walk or less from the main train station. I'd definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a cheap, no frills place to stay in Berlin. :)

I stayed for 7 days at this hostel/ hotel and found it to be pretty good. Bathroom was good size and rooms were clean with comfy beds! Breakfast was great with a large choice- I didn't need lunch after stocking up there! The location is very good, about 5 minutes walk from the new Hauptbahnhof in Berlin. You can reach all the major sites within 15 minutes and there is a fantasticly cheap Italian restaurant just down the road! The bar in the hotel was great and staff were really friendly. I'd definitely go back when I return to Berlin- it has everything you need for a short or longer break in the city.

Room Tip: away from the hostel section which can have school groups

This was the first time we've stayed at the A&O. It's always tough finding places in Europe for a family of 5. The room was large and the beds were comfortable. It got a little noisy at times, but it's both a hotel and a hostel so that is expected. The internet hotspot for our room wasn't working and the dryers in the laundry room were also broken. The staff at the front desk were always friendly and available to help.

The hotel is a short walk (about 15 minutes) from Berlin Hauptbahnhof in a quiet street - shorter if you walk through the walled garden diagonally opposite the Hauptbahnhof.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The reception area has a bar and coffee (and cakes) and vending machines. Smokers were required to stand outside the front door so you have walk through them past the ashtrays to enter the hotel. The hotel has a large hostel section which was very busy due to the midsummer concerts at the Brandenburg Gate area.
The room was clean and looked out onto the courtyard at the back of the hotel. The bed was comfortable and power points were next to the bed.
The shower and toilet were in one unit but roomy enough.
The breakfast room is two floors below ground level and was very busy and noisy due to the large number of people staying there a the time. The buffet had a good range of foods and even had a range of different kinds of tea.

Our room was spotless, bed Ok,Shower excellent,Breakfast superb with fresh rolls, eggs.cheese, ham choice of cereals and great coffee. All for 4 euros. Can get busy and noisy with all the youngsters but just adds to a friendly atmosphere. The staff were always eager to serve at the bar or just a chat and to give information on anything you care to mention. They were all youngsters around 20/25 years and all seemed to enjoy their work(if they didnt they hid it well)
Berlin is our favourite german city and the hotel was perfectly situated, being an easy walk to most of the sites we wanted to see.We are history buffs so ww11 sites were a must. The Reichstag is a 15minute walk or 5 minutes to the S bahn and 2 minutes by train. In our view the Brandengurg gate is BERLIN.Everything seems to lead from there.Cant comment on the shopping as we were too busy doing other things. The locals were all friendly and most speak english and gave the impression you are welcome. The big disapointment was Checkpoint Charlie. You could have your picture taken at the checkpoint standing next to someone pretending to be an American soldiier, the scruffiest ill dressed excuse for a soldier I have ever seen.Suprised no American visitor hasnt shot him. That apart there is something to see everywhere that will interest you whatever your interests are.The food is good and the beer very good. This was our second visit in 2 years and we said we probably wont come back for a while, but in saying that we will probably be back next year.If we do we will be back to this hotel.

They take the Ibis hotel price but not at all comparable to Ibis even.
Problems:
1. Rooms r not sound proof. I felt like there is absolutely no door in the room because the sound from the corridor was loudly audible.
2. Rooms r not even light proof. Only a thin curtain on the window.
3. They don't change towels easily. In my four days stay they didn't do it even once.
4. No phones in the room. Anything you want from them you have to go 4/5 floors down.
5. Beds r really uncomfortable as they have wrapped the mattresses with plastics. This is partly hostel and partly hotel. So they did it to protect the bedding from students.
6. Check out time is 10am. For 11 they don't charge anything. But after that they charge half the room rate. As we discussed with them before hand they charged 5 euros only to check out at 12.
7. If you want to leave your luggage after or before check out then do so at your own risk. They just have a room. There is no tagging and all. So somebody can just come in from outside and pick up your luggage. Some people have complained about theft in other reviews.

Spent 2 nights here (2 adults , 2 kids) at the hotel on a Xmas market break. It's really clean and functional, staff are great and helpful. Large room, really good shower but quite basic as you'd expect from this type of hotel. It's a bit north of the main attractions, but close to the main Hauptbanhof with good S/U-bahn connections. One tip - you go down Lehrter Strasse and think you must have missed the hotel - you haven't! Just keep walking a few more minutes and it's there on the right hand side!! One more tip - gluhwein mit rum, great for the cold evenings...
