We were invited to a wedding in Berlin and stayed at the Matzbach as we were recommend by the wedding couple, who were also staying there. Matzbach faces a small square in the Kreuzberg district of Berlin, which is probably one of the most chilled out areas of town to stay in as it is fairly stress/tourist-free yet packed with bars and restaurants, all within walking distance, boasting a wide range of international cuisine.

The hotel offers 6 rooms, half of which come with a balcony, which are located right above the restaurant. The rooms are decent size, come with a shower room (no bath), tv and safe. If you are staying for more than 2 nights, do remember to ask the staff to give you extra sachets of body wash and shampoo, as they only give you just enough to survive 1 or 2 days.

Our stay coincided with one of the warmest weeks of the summer and with no air con in the rooms it meant that we were still sweating throughout the night despite having the windows open! That also meant however that we were able to maximise the time spent on the outdoor terrace, which seemed to be open as long as there were customers. Recommended to anyone who is not after a lot of luxury but just a little place to chill out and rub shoulders with the fashionable locals.
