This is a free attraction but it does require you to book ahead. We booked in for 4 people on a Saturday evening at 7.45. This was a great time to go as the sun was just setting.

It takes about 15 minutes to get checked-in and through security but after that it is worth it. A simple walk to the top and take a few pictures. It is well worth the 45 minutes or so it took to look around. Not a tour as such, just a view but would definitely recommend it.

Staff were a bit moody but nothing to get too annoyed about.

Book a tour in advance get a fabulous insight into the history of Berlin, the German political system and the great architecture of the building! Well organized and excellent audiovisual guiding for free.

We'd booked a 16:30 slot for the Dome visit, but on arrival we were told there was a private function and the dome would not be accepting visits until after 19:00, and they were all full.
Not helpful, or apologetic, and quickly lost their English language skills when questioned more on it.
So we were effectively turned away, despite having the correct booking reference

Having visited many a historic building, I'm not easily 'wowed'. Then I came to Berlin. The Reichstag is a photographer's dream: it affords a 360-degree view of the city, and the large glass dome makes every shot dazzle. Equally, you can get lost in the timeline of events that lives within the dome.

As other travellers have noted, be sure to pre-register well in advance. Also, for the best photographs, I'd recommend a sunset or evening visit.

Pre-arrange for this tour. It is excellent. You get an understanding of the German political system and the view from the dome is unparalleled. 360 degrees of Berlin. You can just go to the dome without a tour but if you are interested in political systems, the tour is worthwhile.
