Visited on a very busy day during the may holiday weekend. Another landmark ticked off the list. I’m not a political person but I made a point of making sure I visited.

What an experience! Loved it from start to finish. Informative without being too much. A piece of history with views.

The glass dome is brilliant. Be prepared to go through airport style security it well worth it. The rooftop restaurant is also lovely but NOT cheap. You must book in advance.

Prior to arriving you must make an online reservation, entering in details of visitors (names, ID#s etc) and you receive a reply with a formal invitation to visit that must be printed and brought along to visit.
We had an 8:00am reservation time & were there the 15 minutes prior per instructions. If you choose to do this as well, there is no need to get there that early – they didn’t even open up until after 8:00am. Once they did we were ushered through something similar to airport security and directed to a holding around until the rest of the people with the same timeslot went through before proceeding as a group to the building.
The free audio tour begins as you go up the ramp and is somewhat activated by location throughout the tour – sometimes the descriptions weren’t clear on what exactly we were looking at when looking out over the city / what building was being described in the distance. The tour also gave an overview of the government system and history via plaques you could read located at the floor of the dome. My audio kept cutting out so I didn’t get to hear the whole tour. It was a very good overview of the city buildings and government for those unfamiliar. Don’t miss the free books available as you exit the building on the ground floor – there are two available: one is on the Bundestag and the other on the parliament / its buildings. The photos in the book alone are worth a look.

Make sure you book a visit to this building in advance in order to avoid queueing on the day. It is definitely worth visiting not only for the views but also to understand the task architects had to achieve to show openness of post war Germany.
