“The Iconic Place of Berlin”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Egypt has its pyramids, Paris has the tower, New has the Liberty Statue and Berlin has the Brandenburg Gate.

The gate is as many would suggest not much to see and its true that the gate itself could be accomplished in 20 minutes. The area of the gate will have horse carriages for hire, sometimes a protest, the start of Unter de Linden, some cafes, and tour groups galore.

The gate will most likely be passed several times as you make your way around Berlin. I would highly recommend to visit the gate sometime during the dusk hours for exemplary photos. Every iconic landmark changes its flavours during the dusk hours and there are less people wandering about.

“Monument which represents Berlin”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Berlin has an aura of a capital with huge structures and wide roads. And Brandenburg Gate represents that aura. Huge monument with large open square (Pariser Platz) in front of it, is one of the best sites in Berlin. Interestingly, this used to be No Man's Land before fall of the Berlin Wall.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

If you go to Berlin, you have to visit the Brandenburger Tor. It has so much historical value and you won't have been to Berlin if you don't visit this main attraction. It's in a beautiful courtyard, where most of the foreign embassies are based, and on the other side of the road is the Bundestag, so there is a lot to see in this very small part of Berlin.

“What a pity”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

What a shame that this amazing memorial and structure has been built onto on either side by modern buildings. We saw many historic photographs of the Brandenburg Gate during our visit to Berlin and it is an icon of the city. The area has witnessed triumph and pain through war and rebuilding. Why, then, ruin its majestic quality by enclosing it. Imagine if this had happened in Paris to L'arc de Triomphe. What were they thinking?
