The hotel is a beacon of European hospitality. It outshines all Berlin hotels, but one (with the de Rome coming close). The attention to detail, the personalised service and the well-kept infrastructure make the Adlon one of the few Grandhotels in Europe that have maintained a standard of excellence one can only get in Asia / Australia.
Notes per category below.
Had a superior deluxe double overlooking the Unter den Linden with a partial view of the Brandenburg Gate. Very classic luxury style with lavish bathroom, separate toilet and shower and a huge salon area. The hotels services, such as shoeshine, housecleaning, eve turn around ACTUALLY do a fantastic job. Whatever you want, they do it and they do it to perfection. An additional big bonus is the fact that the room doors shut properly thereby leaving any corridor noise behind. The Park Hyatts could learn from this.
Food & Beverage:
Breakfast - very good buffet. Even better service. Very nice teas (all loose leaf and brought to you rather than you having to do it yourself) and nice coffees. Only two points I would add: the Bircher Müsli was more like a stodge and the chef really needs to improve that. Secondly, the salmon needs to be chilled at all times, including during the extended breakfast hour from 11.00 to 12.00 in the banquet area.
Lorenz Adlon - had dinner there. Excellent food, 2 Michelin stars, typical German service of attention to detail. A real must. The food was heavenly. Nothing more to add. Just heavenly.
Uma bar - shocked that people are allowed to smoke in there. I find that unacceptable, especially for such a hotel.
Day Spa & Pool
Very clean. Well maintained. Gym could do with more excercise machines - maybe expand the area if possible. The grouting in the steam room of the Pool areas needs changing.
New, very clean and extremely professional day spa that allows one to relax. We had several treatments and used a spa suite. It was amazing.
Guest services / Concierge
World class. Concierge and guest relations really understand their business (sounds funny, but many actually do not) and can make the difficult things possible. Only quibble is with house keeping: if the do not disturb sign is on, you cannot call the room unless there is an emergency.
Overall, the Adlon compares well with the Taj Hotels and the top Mandarin Orientals of this world. It is way above the standards offered by Hyatt and Steigenberger and totally out of reach for all Sheraton products.
Well done. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish!
