“Great hotel but ....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2012

In Berlin for a meeting at the hotel and only stayed one night. First up, this a very upmarket and expensive hotel. The cost can be justified on the basis of the large and beautifully fitted out rooms, the staff (lots of them and all friendly and helpful), the excellent food, the facilities (used the gym but not the pool) and the location. Everything except the meeting room was perfect. The meeting room air conditioning was either not working or couldn't be properly adjusted so we were all hot and bothered. To add to this, the coffee cups were not cleared by staff after morning tea so we were left with a lot of unnecessary clutter. These are probably minor points to most people, but in a hotel of this nature, I expected much, much better.

i have been staying at the Adlon off and on since it opened in the 1990s. It has always been a special hotel because of its location and its commitment to excellent services. The location hasn't changed. You can still stare at the Brandenburg Gate from the front terrace. But, the quality of the rooms and service has gone down over the last few years. There are no big complaints but a dozen of little things. We were traveling with a group and, at first, they couldn't find our room because the individual names had been entered oddly. They let some of our party know that breakfast was included (and, at $30 or so per person, that is no small thing) and told others that it was not. Our room was small (no surprise) but also in need of an update to accommodate modern travelers and their need for plug ins, shelf space and so forth. The fitness center used to be a gem but the equipment is old and tired and doesn't always work well. And, finally, every little request (like having a small room for a few minutes to sign some papers) was accompanied by a charge.

The Adlon is still one of the best hotels in Berlin. It still has the best location of any hotel in urban Europe. But, the days when its service and amenities took your breath away are long gone.

We splurged on the Adlon Kempinski for 2 nights in Berlin and it was worth every penny. They treated us like celebrities, from the free upgrade to the glass of Prosecco upon checkin to escorting us to our room and explaining all its features. They even sent up a huge bottle of Prosecco and some strawberries as a surprise gift for our honeymoon!

The location is perfect, right by the Brandenburg Gate and walking distance to restaurants, memorials, etc. The business center was great - lots of computers, free Internet and printers for our boarding passes.

In a nutshell - if you can splurge - do it and stay here. The service was impeccable and the room stunning! You will feel like royalty.

Room Tip: mention a birthday, honeymoon or other special occasion if it applies

We (well traveled senior couple) booked a superior class room in this hotel for its location and style.
We were sent to our room -- without escort -- and couldn't find it. That was because it was in
what the clerk called "the residence". Which in fact is an adjacent building where after a loooong walk we were to take a second elevator down 1/2 floor because the floors didn't line up.
Never were we advised of this defect in the hotel and were very upset when we were informed that to be in the hotel proper would cost another 50 euros a night added to an already high rate. We were given a free drink for our trouble.

The upgraded room was large and comfortable but no comparison to the rooms on the beautiful ones on the website.

The lobby lounge is the highlight of the hotel. Spacious and comfortable. The location is just OK if you want to walk everywhere which we do. The nearest restaurant is 3 long blocks away and the shops and museum much further. There is a fantastic Italian place just behind the hotel.

I feel it is incumbent upon an establishment in this category to be forthcoming about the location of lower priced accomodations. If we had known we would be sent to the boonies or forced to pay more, we would have booked another hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room in the main building on a high floor. Ask the price up front. Ask to see...

The best location in town next to the "Brandenburger Tor", ask for or book a room with view " Unter den Linden ", a little bit loudy, but you may see "from east to west". Rooms are small, especially bathrooms, but nice accomadated. Very friendly, perfect service. The " Konrad Adlon Esszimmer " is a 2-star-michelin retaurant at the first floor- ask for view to the Brandenburger Tor, if possible -; creative, excellent, great young service, high price : it is it worth !

I stayed for business. In the same square as the Brandenburg gate, you won't find a better location. Convenient to everything, so don't be disappointed by the lack of cafes etc just outside the door. A couple of blocks down Unter den Linden or a walk towards Friedrichstrasse railway yields many good restaurants and pubs. The hotel itself is superb, with friendly, attentive and professional service. Spoil yourself - you must stay!

Great hotel in a fabulous position next to the Brandenberg Gate. Wondeful welcome at the door, glass of prosecco at reception and probably the best breakfast in the world.
The staff are attentive and sincere, the accomodation first class as you would expect, and the facilities superb. Only one little criticsism that is that having arrived on an early flight and wanting to have a beer on the terrace, we were informed that it did not open until midday and therefore we could not sit there. Disppointing to say the least. It did not however mar our stay.
The bar is delightful, the staff terrific and all in all our three day stay was of the highest standard imaginable.
I cannot imagine wanting to stay anywhere else in Berlin. It is simply the best
