For those of us with lots of travel experience worldwide, The Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin is indeed The Ultimate Hotel Experience. Being a member of "Leaders Club", it is always a pleasure to return to Hotel Adlon in Berlin. One of the true Grand Hotels of Europe. And in fact, the "model" of the great Greta Garbo film "Grand Hotel" from 1932, with the setting in Berlin of the late 1920's.

The "modern Hotel Adlon" being re-openened in 1997, is an oasis of warmth and excellent service throughout the hotel. The rooms are cosy and stylish with lots of space. The bathroom impressive with lots of amenities and setting for relaxing moments. The Continental Breakfast in the Lobby Lounge was a great experience for my wife and myself. Probablly the best and most stylish Continental Breakfast we have ever experienced in any hotel.

We always enjoy visiting the Adlon Spa when staying at the Hotel Adlon Berlin. A stylish pool area with Jacuzzi and lots of space for relaxing, moments. Two fascinating steam baths or "Dampfsauna" as well. Many offers for spa treatments.

The level of excellent services throughout the hotel is a typical feature for this Grand Hotel. A wonderful feeling during the entire stay. A little surprising this time : A "wake up call" at 3.50 AM which had nothing to do with me or my wife. Anyhow, recommended to everybody who would like to experience the best of hotel services !

Room Tip: Visitors to Hotel Adlon Berlin should at least once try a room overlooking the street Unter den Lind...

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the historic Hotel Adlon Kempinsky in Berlin. Everything at the Adlon is “top drawer”; the rich and elegant décor, the luxurious comfort of the rooms as well as the common areas, the award-winning restaurant and bar, and the exceptionally helpful staff!
Everyone at the concierge desk was so friendly and helpful. We were especially appreciative that, not only did they let us check in when we arrived at 8:30 am (!), but they also upgraded our room. What a way to feel welcome! They were very helpful with reservations to museums (some before we arrived) and restaurants, and in making our train reservations when we left (sadly).
We also enjoyed the fact that it is so conveniently located to museums, sights, and activities (just blocks from some) and in a vibrant and interesting neighborhood. Being at the Brandenburg Gate makes it even more exceptional! The Adlon is such a landmark. We just had to say the name and anyone knew where we were staying, especially convenient for taxis! It is also close to public transportation.
We enjoyed Berlin and feel there is a lot more to explore there. We will have to come back! And when we do, we would not think of staying anywhere other than the Hotel Adlon! We thank everyone there for adding to our wonderful stay!

I stayed in a junior suite for a conference. The welcome and service were first class, the quality of the room was faultless, breakfast was fantastic; sitting at a table overlooking the Brandenburg gates.

I was here on a business trip and we were lucky enough to enjoy the surroundings of this hotel and also to enjoy the very good food. The event was catering for a large number of people and thought the service and food was simply great!! Enjoying drinks in the bar area afterwards was really lovely. The hotel has a lovely atmosphere and great staff.

This hotel is the absolute epitome of taste, style, class and service. We had our EU customer conference there and everything was perfect. They have succeeded in keeping the old world charm of the original Adlon hotel while providing state of the art conveniences like universal outlets, USB ports in a special desk along with the free use of an iPad. Everything about this is grand without being pretentious.

Room Tip: The hotel is on the same plaza as the Brandenburg gate so asking for a view might be nice.

I came to the Adlon on a British Airways short city break. The package included full breakfast and a 'superior' room. Having been in Berlin several times in the past (mainly for work) I had always wanted to stay once in the Adlon. Now, retired, I finally got there.

The Adlon has certainly got character. It's not really like any hotel I've stayed in before. The lobby is sumptius and usually packed with groups of people noisily having drinks or coffee. You have to negotiate this crowd - and at least three members who staff who will greet you on the way - in order to reach the lifts to the bedrooms. It's an experience just walking through it.

Check-in and check-out were carried out efficiently and in a friendly manner. There were no problems with the bill at all. The staff made me feel welcome, not just then, but throughout my stay. The Adlon certainly seems to have more customer facing staff than the norm.

Not surprisingly given the package deal, my room was in the Gods (6th floor) and right at the back of the hotel - - and it's a long way to the back. This is a bigger hotel than it seems from the front and extends the full depth of the block between Pariser Platz and Behrenstrasse.

But that said, the room was great. It resembled a mini suite with a queen sized bed, sofa, armchair, two desks and rather surprisingly a cooker, sink and microwave oven behind wardrobe doors. ( Never quite worked out why. Personally I'd have preferred a kettle and a few teabags.) Two separate windows gave a view of Potsdamer Platz in the distance.

The decor was a little heavy for my taste - lots of mahogany and walnut - but was beautifully done as were the bathroom and separate WC which could have come straight out of a 1930s liner. Other facilities: TV, safe etc were all of a first class standard. The wi-fi in the rooms was free in its basic form, payable if you want a faster facility. (The basic version was fine for Skype phone calls but not video.) Rather annoyingly you have to create a new account each day to continue using it. Very Prussian.

But here's the real test of any hotel room. Do you a get a good nights sleep there ? Yes ! From my experience the Adlon passes that test emphatically - once you find the button (it's in the bedside table) which turns off the air-conditioning fan. Slept like a log every night.

The breakfast room is on the ground floor in the corner facing the Brandenburg Gate. As a location it's unbeatable. And the breakfast is good - but no better or worse than you'd expect in a hotel of this standard. The staff are very helpful and attentive - perhaps just a little too attentive at times, but remembering the customer's name is a nice touch.

As another reviewer remarked, the front door porters do act a little like bouncers - but having seen the crowds outside on two of the three nights I stayed there, I can understand why they have to. The trick is to show your key card in its little black holder rather like a pass as you go in. 'Bouncing mode' will switch instantly to 'Welcome Back'.

Important people staying there means lots of police cars/men and women outside and pretty big crowds. If you prefer a quiet entry and have your key card handy you can get in the backdoor instead.

Unfortunately Unter den Linden is presently a building site - in preparation for extending a U-Bahn line to run the length of the street. (October 2013) It isn't pretty right now but staying at the Adlon, you still are ideally located for the Reichstag and a whole range of other sites. There are SBahn and UBahn stations right outside the door for getting further afield.

If you' re doing Berlin on a City Break, the most important thing to decide upfront is whether you want to stay in the centre of old Berlin (Mitte) where the Adlon and Government Quarter are - or a couple of miles to the west: in the centre of what was West Berlin, near the Kurfurstendamm, where the main shops are. A lot has been done since 1991 to unite the two parts, but they remain distinctively different. If you go for Mitte, and want a five star experience with a difference, the Adlon is very well worth considering. To me, it was literally unforgettable.
