this is such a lovely looking area, the whole area makes you seem like you are almost back in time, as the whole atmosphere is old with great buildings around the area :)

I cann't say this is the most beautiful square I've ever seen. But it's nice. When you are there, go to Fassbender & Rausch Chocolatier... amazing and take a break. It's on the corner of Mohrenstrasse behind the Deutsche Dom (left of the Konzerthaus.) Go to the 1e floor for a coffee or cake.

This beautiful square comprises the stunning Konzerthaus flanked by two cathedrals - German and French (the former is now only a museum). Sculptures, a beautiful little garden along one flank, and good restaurants in the square itself, and along the streets. The Mendelssohn Remise is just off the square on Jaegerstr. and highly recommended.

This square was right in front of our Hilton. The buildings are amazing and it is very pedestrian friendly.Buy some currywurst and sit at some outdoor tables and enjoy the people watching. You will soon realize that this is one of the important crossroads in the world.Considering 70% of the city was destroyed in WW2 they have done an amazing rebuild and revitalization.

Worth visiting alone for the architecture afforded by the restored German and French cathedrals (Deutscher und Französischer Dom) and the Schinkel’s Konzerthaus (concert hall), the Gendarmenmarkt is also an excellent spot to stroll around or sit and take a beer or coffee in one of the many surrounding café’s. Once we’d visited for the first time we always tried to engineer our stroll across town to take in a walk through the Gendarmenmarkt.
A great space at the best of times , but I can imagine absolutely superb when the festive Christmas market and ice rink are in situ.
