“A quite retreat in busy Berlin”

The Grand Westin could not be better located. Great shopping, dining and historic sites to see.
Although some of the rooms and furnishings show their age, the feel of the place is very comfortable and pleasant.
I had a large suite and there was nothing I could find to be critical of.
Check Point Charlie, the Brandenberg gate and other sites are a few minutes walk.
If in Berlin, stay at the Westin Grand.

For breakfast, walk down the street to excellent fresh orange juice and pastries, forget the Westin for breakfast.

Room Tip: try for rooms facing the inner garden

We were on a city break and were recommended this hotel by another friend who had been to Berlin previously. The location was very good and central for a lot of the sites and some shopping too. The rooms could probably do with a refresh. Some of the furnishings were looking a little tired in my room. I Did not get much city centre noise which was good ( on floor 6) although a friend on the 4th floor did complain that her room was noisy in the early morning (floor 4). Breakfast if you wanted the full deal was €33 so you'd have to eat a lot to get the value. We opted for the "small breakfast" option at €16, not esp a bargain but when tea was €8 and juice€7 it worked out the best option. As there were no tea or coffee facilities in the room I thought the hot beverage charges way too high in the hotel. It was an additional €4 if you wanted it in your room. The other bug bear was internet. Wifi was not free anywhere, something I am not used to, often it's free in public areas at least. Here too I thought charges were too high for an amenity most people now see as a necessity. €3.50 per hour or 15 per day. This is not an especially cheap hotel to stay in, but it's a nice standard of hotel and a good location and I would recommend it for those purposes. However, it was a shame that when there, you did not feel like a valued guest, more someone they were trying to make more money out of. If the charges were more sensible rather than taking advantage of a captive audience, more people would use them. Three of our party with iPad/tablets refused to pay for the wifi and as much as I would have liked a cup of tea occasionally I could not bring myself to pay €12 for it! We were members of the Starwood alliance but it did not seem to bring any benefits with it.

The good points about the hotel:

- a great base to do a city holiday
- make sure you ask for a room not over looking either of the streets as during the working week it is noisy - it is fine at weekends. We has asked for quiet rooms and while there was no view to speak of it was very quiet
- the beds and pillows in the 'heavenly rooms' are lovely
- very clean rooms including the bathroom
- good shower
- complementary water provided every day
- excellent concierge, Lutz, who sorted out our restaurant bookings
- breakfast, ask for the 'small' breakfast at 16E. It does not include the cooked breakfast, other than boiled eggs or champagne, but is half the normal price for breakfast which is very expensive at 32 E. The range of fruit, cheeses, fish, meats etc make the small breakfast excellent
- the lobby area is very impressive and the reception staff very pleasant
- the jacuzzi and pool are lovely

Less good things
- no free coffee of tea in the rooms or in a central location
- no free wifi, the cost is 15 E a day
- room could do with a redecoration, it was looking a little tired
- changing air-conditioning dial does not seem to change the temperature. It was not too warm when we were there, but if it was 30+c, it would have been quite uncomfortable
- the coffee at breakfast is not great, if you are a coffee connoisseur

Would I stay there again, probably but it would be nice if the hotel to sort of the niggles

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room not overlooking either of the roads as it noisy during the working week

My wife and I stayed here for a week and a half. The hotel was excellent--possibly the quietest room I've ever had. The staff was discrete but responsive to our needs. Above all, the location is excellent--right in the center of Berlin. Close to attractions and the transportation grid. I think this is the place to stay when visiting Berlin.

Unbelievable location. With in walking distance of some many historical sites. The hotel it self is very nice also. Loved staying where the Bourne movies was filmed. The rooms was nice all it's missing is a club room for the platinum guest.

What a nice review, we are really thankful. Thank you for being with us and for letting us know your great experience with us. Due to the structural situation we are not able to offer the club at the moment. But we hope it will not deter you to return one day - we are looking forward to your visit. The staff at this hotel are excellent. However it is looking like it needs a makeover. This hotel has a great location and the staff work very hard to make sure you feel comfortable. It offers everything that a hotel of this quality should. But it has a slightly shabby feel to it. Also, the food at both the lunch and dinner I had there was not good. It was acceptable but not good enough for the price. Overall it was a fine but underwhelming stay.

Dear guest, regrettably we could not convince you completely and we take your review serious for improving our service offer. Some renovation are going to undertake smoothly. We also regret that the food does not meet your expectations. Should your travel plans bring you back to Berlin we would be pleased to be your first choice and to may convince you completely. What a beautiful hotel 6 blocks from the Brandenberg gate. The lobby is breathtaking with a gorgeous circular staircase. There is also a bar and a restaurant. Our room was large and very nicely furnished. It was very clean and the best part was the Westin bed after 24 hours of travel. We had originally planned on eating breakfast at the hotel but it was roughly 35 euros each. Instead we found some nice corner restaurants that we explored and liked each one. The bus from here to the airport was 3 1/2 euros compared to 60 euros for taxi. Most everything we did was within walking distance or a bus ride of the hotel. The bus stop was across from the hotel.

So nice to letting us know your thoughts in regards to your stay with us! Regrettably you missed the experience with our breakfast buffet (32.00 per person) with its wide range of foods and beverages and not to forget with the healthy Superfoods. We thank you for your opinion and hope we may welcome you again in the not too distant future. The Westin Grand Berlin, Andrea W.
