“great location for the best of berlin”
Reviewed 17 October 2008

stayed here 3 nights over Easter and was very impressed as I don't normally stay with the bigger chain hotels. got a deal with expedia so it was great value for such a lovely place and ideal location. We walked all over this area and enjoyed the luxurious accommodation and friendly service. Didn't eat here though as there are so many great places nearby!

I haven't stayed at too many nicer hotels. Nor would I generally spend over 300 Euros for a hotel (thankfully my Mom was paying for this stay). At the risk of sounding like a line from "Cabaret," everything about this hotel is beautiful. The lobby is beautiful. The restaurants are beautiful. The rooms are beautiful. The pool and gym are are really beautiful. Even the breakfast is a feast for the eyes (as well as the stomach). We ate at both restaurants. The Trader Vic's puts our Trader Vic's here in Emeryville to shame, both with respect to decor and food quality. The German restaurant, Mark Brandenburg, simply had the best German food I've ever had (and I've been to Germany about 8-9 times). One needs to swipe ones room cards in order to access the floor rooms. The pool/gym area is open 24 hours/day.
As a Gold HHonors member, we received an upgraded room, which was very quiet, comfortable, and large, but had no view (windows open to an inner courtyard).

My complaints about the hotel: (1) Charging 22 Euros/day for lousy (off/on) internet service is a bit outrageous given the very high room charges, (2) Temperature difficult to adjust in the room (no thermostat), and we couldn't get it quite cool enough for comfort, (3) Rather thin towels for a luxury hotel, (4) Needless step to the beds; great for tripping on (especially for an older person such as my mother)
So a very nice hotel, albeit not a great value. I would go here if money were of no object (and not otherwise).

  • Liked — Visual appeal, comfort
  • Disliked — No thermometer; extra-fee & weak internet; thin towels

Stayed 3 nights in a junior suite which was great with a gorgeous bathroom, but breakfast was not included and the room cost 414 Euros per night which is far more that any other hotel I've ever stayed in. However the views from the room of the cathedral and the Gendarmenmarkt were fantastic! U-Bahn right outside the door and the tour bus stops very nearby.
Try the sweet hot chocolate in the cafe above the chocolate shop next door, it is to die for!
Had dinner in the Mark Brandenberg restaurant which was excellent, also in Lutter and Wegner across the road, similarly good with an amazing choice of wines.
Last night ate in Diverso, an Italian along the road, which was good.
Loved Berlin, all the history and the atmosphere were just what I imagined.

We have just returned from a five night stay at the Hilton Berlin for our honeymoon. This is really a great hotel, excellent staff, nice room and the bed was so comfortable!
In the room there was plenty of wardrobe and drawer space.
In terms of location, it was ideal.
A great hotel that we will definitely consider visiting when we go back next time.

Spent four excellent nights. Because hotels were busy spent a bit more to get an Executive room and it was well worth the additional cost. Staff on the Exceutive floor could not be faulted and every aspect of the hotel exceeded our expectations. Perhaps the best hotel stay we have ever had. Well done.

Hilton – stay on executive floor (great lounge) get a room overlooking the Gendarmenmarkt (beautiful day and night).

They also have a nice pool and spa but the children at all hours in the pool will drive you to the nudist spa area, which is pretty nice and child free. There are several good restaurants near by.

We loved the eastern sector location with it's delightful walking areas and proximity to museum island and gorgeous neo-classical architecture. The Potsdammer Platz is very times square with it's glass and steel highrises and heavy traffic.

The rooms are very comfortable - typical Hilton decor - nice sheets and good showers.

The concierge was very helpful with local restaurants.

The lounge had a great breakfast and offered drinks through the day including wine, etc. at evenings with appetizers.

  • Liked — views of the gendaremarkt
  • Disliked — it doesn't have much local flavor inside
