“is it worth the time?”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

nice island within the city limits. Stopped on our seven lake ship tour to visit the island. After arriving by the ferry's landing point, there was a long queue of guests, it took around 30 minutes to board the ferry, and you have to expect to pay 3 Euros for it, which i think is a rip off, we paid for the 2 hours ship ride 11 Euros, so why should the 30 meters or so cost 3 Euros per person? Had only a small walk on the island, as we had to return in time. Nice for a walk, not sure if it is worth the time & money.

“Beautiful Island:)”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

I read about Peacock Island & as I love Peacocks I just had to visit. I honestly had not encountered Peacocks in many years so this was very exciting for me. My husband & I took the bus which drops you off at Peacock Island and as it's the very last stop you don't have to worry about missing your dropoff! The first sound we heard was of course the Peacocks. We waited about 15mins for the ferry to bring us across to the island which is the shortest distance you will probably travel by ferry! The grounds are so beautiful & really well maintained. There are markers that guide you around the grounds so you shouldn't get lost! There are quite a few interesting buildings to see that are great picture opportunities. After walking quite a bit enjoying the peaceful surroundings we came across the Peacocks in their menagerie, a little noisy but so beautiful:) A little further down the track we came across a single Peacock perched on a branch, this was picture time! We stayed for a couple of hours & then headed back to catch the last bus from Peacock Island. This is a great place to get away from everything. Just bring a nice picnic & set up wherever you choose. You could spend all day here:)

“One day escape from the megalopolis”
Reviewed 5 December 2012

If you'll be tired of Berlin architectural attractions one day you have to know about this charming place where you could rest a while from the stone jungle.

At the island you'll have a lot of walking by well organized pathways with the benches along, a lot of great scenery views, peakocks for sure, and a few buildings (castle, hunting lodge, poultry yard, souvenir shop). It's enough to spend a half day for all the island but I would recommend to spend there some more time according to the weather.

It's easy to get there - about 25 minutes by S-Bahn (line S7) from the center to Wahnsee and a 15 minutes bus ride (line 218) to the ferry stop.
There are three hints about the bus:
1) The route belongs to AB zone so you don't need extra tickets.
2) Check the timetable because there is a beautiful historical bus doing few rides per day so you could catch it on your way back at least.
3) There is very nice restaurant near the bus stop after you leave the island. The bus goes twice per hour but you can eliminate waiting by having a meal before you go back to the city.

“Absolutely serene”
Reviewed 12 September 2012

It's incredible that a place like Pfaueninsel exists within city limits, as the island and surrounding woodlands of the area really feel about as far from a city as possible. Getting to Pfaueninsel is very straightforward by public transport as there's a bus that runs from Wannsee station to the ferry dock opposite the island itself. While you do pay for the ferry ride, there's no additional entry fee to access the island.

Once on the island, you're free to roam all the pathways through the woodland and open areas, along with its amusing scale replica "ruins". The island is big enough that even on a hot summer day where there are many visitors, you can feel isolated (in a good way) and enjoy some peace and quiet.

There's a central area with short grass and a shack selling food and drinks. The staff here were all incredibly friendly and I thought the prices were very reasonable. It was easy to kill time just lazying about on the lawns in the sun.

Parks like this provide a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and I think if my stay in Berlin had been longer than it was, I'd definitely have returned here for another day of strolling through the forest and relaxing on the lawns.

“What a peaceful lovely little island!”
Reviewed 20 August 2012

It's like being on a different planet after the short ferry crossing from the mainland. Wonderful walks with spectacular views ... and really a lot more to see than just peacocks (the 'peacock's menagerie with the animal cages is the oldest still existing in Europe!)
