I'm really of two minds about this place - but a lot of the negative side was due to the weather. It was torridly hot in Berlin when we arrived (touching 100F). Thankfully, the location was close to the train station so we weren't lugging our bags too far. However, we DID have to go up several flights of stairs to get to the lobby.
We were disappointed at the fact that there was no air conditioning (which we later discovered was 'normal') but the windows opened and the staff was EXTREMELY helpful in getting a fan for the room. We were a little worried in that there were no screens on the windows (but, again, we learned this would be normal as we continued across Germany) but there were no problems with insects or anything else flying into the room.
The breakfast was good and the staff was always helpful. My wife and I couldn't help thinking that this would be the PERFECT place to stay if it wasn't for the weather.
As another reviewer said - the after-hours "entry procedure" *is* a bit odd - it involves a strange skeleton key that you use to unlock one lock, then push it through the lock, retrieve it on the other side of the door and lock that door with it before it's released to you. It's different but it always worked - no problems there.
All in all it was a pretty good place to stay. The location is fantastic - close to the regional train station and the subway, but less than half a block from Kufurstedamm so you can easily catch a taxi if you need one. Oh - and if you're into those hop-on, hop-off tour buses, one of them starts right there on K'dam so there's more convenience.
