“complete rip-off: 3 pieces of salmon in the salmon pasta dish”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2011

I ordered from this restaurant tagliatelle al salmone, among a salad and an appetizer. The salmon dish had exactly 3 pieces of salmon in the whole plate. It was a mountain of pasta with 3 pieces of salmon put on the top, so it looked nice when I received it. This was a very disappointing rip-off. I had to find another lunch, as the 3 pieces of salmon were not enough. Never ordering again.

“Great Italian place near Hackescher Markt”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2011

A local friend took us to this little Osteria, which we would have never found on our own. It’s a nice oasis in an otherwise somewhat overpriced neighborhood.

We wanted to sit in the back garden but were fairly warned by the staff that in the heat and after an afternoon thunderstorm, we might notice a garbage smell from the neighboring courtyard. A bit odd, but the honesty was appreciated. We ate inside near the open front windows, which was just fine, as we arrived early before it got too crowded, and the décor is lovely. The food and wine were very good. Lots of homemade pastas, good olive oil and ciabatta, etc.

Another reviewer has written about the tall skinny waiter. He also served us, and he was quirky but not at all rude. He actually chatted with us quite a bit and seemed specifically interested in making sure we enjoyed our meal (with grappa on the house to finish things off), though his organizational and German language skills were not the greatest.

“Great food, appalling customer service.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2011

This is a very cosy and quaint little Italian just off one of the main touristy streets in Berlin, which filled us with hope after only spotting overpriced touristy establishments in the area. A very small eaterie, with lovely red walls, candles and photos of Italian filmstars on the walls, we were very impressed, as were we by the food which was genuinely Italian, beautifully presented and delicious.

Sounds perfect, doesn't it? Well, unfortuntalely not. If it were only for the food I would be giving Osteria Tarantina an 'excellent' but the customer service was one of the worst I have ever experienced.

Specifically, one waiter. A tall, thin guy with long hair who's attitude reeked so much it was akin to Pecorino, not a please nor a thank you in sight and any attempt to start small talk was returned with a grunt and a frown. Disgusting. This warranted him a 1 cent tip, which was a shame, as if we could have given it directly to the chef we would have tipped generously.

Owners, if you're reading this, give that chef a pay rise but for God sake get rid of that waiter! He's bringing you down!
