Leonardo Hotel Berlin City Sud
Ranked #292 of 634 Hotels in Berlin
Reviewed 1 October 2012

Just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel, and agree with previous comments. The hotel is clean, bright and airy and all the staff are friendly.
There is everything available in your room making your stay comfortable (TV, Tea & Coffee, mini bar, complimentary slippers) and a safe. Although should you visit in the summer months(and it is hot) note: that there is no available air conditioning. Breakfast is available from 6am until 10am serving continental breakfast. As the weather was sunny for our stay, the walk to the nearest Ubahn (Johannisthaler Chaussee) is approx 15 minutes away which is not too bad in the morning, although seems a long way back when your feet ache having taken in the Berlin sights! There is a mexican restaurant next door to the hotel, and shops (Aldi), bars and restaurants in the locality, and should you be driving there is also a petrol station at the end of the road. All in all, a very pleasant stay, and would stay here again.

This Leonardo (there are more of them in Berlin) is small and friendly.
Location is quite far from city center (2 buses and a 50 minutes trip to get there).
Rooms are comfortable, but tere is no air condition unit at all !!
Bathroom is well equipped but soap/shampoo is only available through a multipurpose container attached to the wall. (housekeeping left it empty one day)
Beds are twins with a mattress on the soft side.
The neighbourhood is a quiet residential one, with mini-markets (Aldi) on both sides of the hotel, 300 meters away each.
Breakfast is nice and tasty, reception is welcoming and helpful.
There are no extra facilities such as swimming pool/gym, which makes me wonder how this hotel got 4 stars classification....

Room Tip: Front room s face the street (not tto busy one),Back rooms face the hotel's parking lot/"ga...

We booked this hotel as part of an Easyjet holiday package and chose it mainly for the price with the location being a secondary factor and were pleasantly surprised when we arrived.
The hotel is located to the south of the city, at the edge of tube zone B. (The Berlin runs a 3 zone system for both tube and busses, A, B, C.) Getting to the hotel from the airport was very simple, we jumped on the 171 buss directly outside the airport doors and it took 20 mins to get to Zadesk Stasse - the buss stop/road junction of the hotel which is diagonally opposite the hotel.
The reception is clean, bright and airy and the reception staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and our room reflected the welcoming attitude – a light room, decorated in white, lemon and blue, with unexpected extras such as a mini bar at very reasonable prices (a bottle of coke for 2.50 euro or a beer for 3.50 euro, very good for mini-bar prices.) There were also complimentary slippers, bathroom products and arrival biscuits on the pillows. The bathroom was equipped with both a shower and bath and had a hairdryer, which was a little dated but powerful, and two sockets for a razor/hair straightness. There was also a very nice flat screen television in the bedroom which along with many German channels, also played BBC World News, CNN and MTV.
Breakfast is available for a generous amount of time, from 6am until 10am so no matter what your plans for the day, you can always have a full start. It’s a typical Continental breakfast, breads, fruits, meats, cheeses, teas, coffee, juices, yoghurt and cereals. It’s self service and you can have as much as you like. This was the only meal we had at the hotel, but dinner is also available.
As for location, there are a few alternative restaurants in the immediate area, but if you want bars and cocktails then I suggest jumping on the 171 buss right outside the hotel in the direction of the airport. After about 4 stops, you’ll reach the Rudow area which has a village atmosphere with a range of restaurants and bars available – you can walk there from the hotel in about 15 mins.
If you turn left out of the hotel and take the immediate left hand turn, you’ll be walking along Zadesk Stasse a pretty and very safe residential road. You’ll then cross a larger road and continue on Zadesk Stasse. When you reach the top of Zadesk Stasse you’ll be facing a large shopping centre, that has well know stores such as H&M, (be advised, this is not open for shopping on Sunday’s only for the tube and the cafes.) Here you can access the tube via the U7 line Johannisthaler Chaussee station and with just one change at the Mehringdamm stop to the U6 line, you can travel to the Friedrich Stasse (from here you can walk to the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Museum Island and the Holocaust Memorial in just 15 mins) station in the heart of Berlin – the whole tub trip taking just 15 mins.
Although the hotel is set away from the main city, it’s nice to have a quiet retreat to return to after a busy day sightseeing or shopping and with the tubs and busses running until 1am and plenty of taxis around, you can even stay out and party a while!

Room Tip: Ask for a high room with a bay window.

I stayed in this hotel in the end of 2008, I will offer my review of this site but look at more recent reviews as it may have changed. The hotel itself is a little away from the metro station but not a too long walk - maybe 15 mins. The hotel is a best western so you can expect cleanness and other basic facilities, there is also a nice little restaurant within the hotel - but its not owned by the hotel. There was all the basic stuff i wanted - TV, en suite and bed was comfortable. The staff were helpful.
I would recommend this hotel, but for some people a more centrally located hotel would be better.

Did not expect the hotel to be conveniently located to bus#171 that runs from Berlin Airport (Schonefeld).
Great value.
The room is surprisingly SpOTLESS!
Too bad it was only for a short stay, would have stayed longer if time was permitting...
Loved it overall

This Hotel is nothing like their website presents, not at all contemporary, modern or neat. The location was extremely far and inconvenient from central Berlin, two trams and bus to get to (took an hour), and the bus is constantly late and doesnt run past 12am. The room smelled musty and the chairs were stained. Breakfast was expensive and mediocre at best, cold eggs and bacon. Had the pasta dinner, had to send it back as it was undercooked (crunchy even), and they still left the item on the bill, and offered a shot of Ammerreto as a consellation, I declined and asked that the item be removed from the bill and they obliged (althoug I shold not have had to ask). Overall dissapointed and would not stay again nor recommend.

We choosed this hotel because I take part in different loyalty programmes, and this was compreratively cheap option with possibility to get Best western rewards points as well as SAS Eurobonus points (checked out 21/11/2010 and points registered already 24/11/2010!). But it was a positive surprice that it was also easy accessible by bus Nr 171 directly from Schonefeld airport (bus station Zadekstrasse). Use the same bus + metro to travel also to the center of the city. Hotel looks very good – all is clean, perfect staff, rooms quite big. I was satisfied.
