and I agree with much of this - but not all, so I would just like to counterbalance the rave reviews a bit, for whatever it's worth and for as long as this review will be high enough on the list that it will be read. :-)
Yes, the aquarium is nice, and to look at the fish is relaxing (although rooms towards the atrium mean air condition during the night, and no view of the outside weather). The location is really nice if one is busy in Mitte - tourism, some shopping and the nice Hackescher Markt neighborhood, the Berlin Madison Ave., with really good restaurants. I also found the staff uniformly friendly and trying; the front desk was always very nice, and all maintenance staff greeted the guests as if after some very good training. And I like the pool that allows lap swimming, which has good opening hours (6 am - 10 pm).
Why then just an "average" rating? Because all this may be as it is, but this is just not a ***** hotel by any standards - it is a **** one. Some of the general hotel amenities are ****, but the standard *rooms* (and these are not a cheap class but the main category) are definitely not; partially, they are even ***. And for me, the key to hotel is my room and not the public areas. Beds here are small, mattresses not that great, rooms are small (too small for two I think), the wifi (in a normal 4th floor room) often so weak it switched off (ipad, so the receiver was not the problem), a very inconvenient bathroom desk fromwhich things kept falling; a bad water and crane system that necessarily flooded the area with the stuff there; no reading lamps at the bed; and so on and so on.
Sure, this is way better than a Motel One and even for **** I would have found this probably okay. But the fact is that for the price the Radisson Blu demands, and seeing how much other hotels in this category cost - Berlin is not expensive for hotels - there is no correlation; one pays to much for small, inconvenient rooms. If one wants precisely this location and/or the fish tank and isn't fussy about rooms and sleep quality, one should go here, but if one looks for a genuine ***** hotel, one definitely can find a much better one in Berlin, and for less money.
