“Very nice hotel close to Alexanderplatz”
Reviewed 15 June 2012

Visited this hotel with my wife and two friends. The rooms are standard Radisson standard. Very nice. The breakfast was great with the possibility to get a fresh omelette, fresh waffles besides the standard great selection of food.
The most special thing about this hotel is probably the giant circular fishtank inside the hotel.
The hotel is just across the river from the Berliner Dom. Close to Brandenburger Tor and Reichtag.

For us, the locations was probably not the best. Next time I will choose a location closer to Kurfürstendam. But that is just a matter of taste.

Room Tip: I got a business class room overlooking the Berliner Dom.

Travelled for a conference
the aquarium is to be seen to be believed.
great lobby, the bar prices are quite high
but location is fantastic, 10 mins walk and you are in the major tourist area.

There was nothing strikingly wrong with this hotel, but there were a few negatives for the price and rating
:

Negatives:
We were promised robes, slippers, coffee making machines, two reasonable sized single bed - we got none of the above - we had to request robes on a couple of occasions, when the room was cleaned these were removed and weren't replaced (same goes for the iron and ironing board it’s taken out of the room each day which means every time you need it you have to re-request it), we weren't given any hot drink facilities at all - which was quite a pain considering the price of coffee and tea in the hotel (average of 7-8 Euros a cup!!! also DON'T ORDER WATER!! We got charged a whopping 9.95 Euros for a bottle at dinner), and our beds were VERY small, I’m a slim average sized female and I found these beds very difficult, they were small in width and I only just fitted on height-wise, the pillows were lumpy and the mattress was hard. The rooms weren't sound proof at all - although this wasn't a problem for us, if you are affected easily by sound then you won't enjoy the rooms that over look the bar, as you can hear everything, and when staff are moving furniture and tables after the bar closes (around 2am) there is a lot of loud banging which will easily wake up light sleepers. Food and drinks are overpriced (however the cocktails are worth the money), didn't try the breakfast as it was 25 Euros, and there were lots of nice little cafes on the corner of the street. I also found a couple of the reception staff quite rude/snooty on some occasions, asked a couple of questions and the responses sometimes seemed a little abrupt!

Unfortunately you can't use the Spa facilities unless you're prepared to go full frontal (no clothing allowed what so ever) and i'm far too conservative and boring to do that! Was a bit of a shame, although we did sneak down when no one was around and sat in our swimming costumes, until an old naked man came in, the view was quite unappealing!! ha ha.

Positives:
Bar is lovely to sit in, fish tank is amazing (keep an eye out for the scuba diver he usually appears about 10am) Bar, Restaurant and Door staff were really friendly and pleasant to talk to. The hotel is very well maintained and nice but lacking in atmosphere and character - felt a bit like a shopping mall at times.

Our room had a very nice view of the tank, rooms were adequate size, bathrooms were modern and fresh with cute toiletries and soft towels, powerful showers, plenty of mirrors in the room, blackout curtains, food in the restaurant and room service was nice but like i said overpriced not really worth the money unless no other option -. You also get sky movie channel which is a bonus.

Location is fantastic, close to everything with amazing views as soon as you step out the door.

Overall the hotel was hit and miss; if you can get a good deal go for it, I wouldn't pay full price - it’s also very much a business hotel, full of business men!!

Berlin is so wonderful that in reality you could be staying in a shabby hostel and it wouldn't make a difference to your holiday, so much to do, so little time, beautiful superb city so full of culture and history, definitely on my top holiday locations – Young Germans (under 40s) were very friendly, helpful, fun and approachable, I found the older generations a little stern and less approachable.

Room Tip: Tip of the holiday: don't bother queuing ha!  Dont' buy the hotel water and try to chat to...

In Berlin for a short stay and this location was perfect. Staff very nice and all spoke perfect English. We arrived early in the morning from USA and were expecting to drop off luggage and walk around for a few hours before we could check in, but we were given our room right away and were able to rest first! Rooms very modern and comfortable. Free wifi, use of fitness center and hair dryers.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing outside, not fish tank in center, tank is cool but views are better!

I loved this hotel and we really enjoyed staying there. We got a very good price on Expedia for 4 nights in a business room on the fifth floor overlooking the River Spree and the Berlin Dom. Fantastic view and I loved sitting at the open full length windows watching the tourist boats pass by below and listening to the church bells at 6pm each evening (they didn’t ring at night). The location is great. The trams and the 100 and 200 buses are only few yards away. We bought a 3 day pass that included all the museums on Museum Island opposite and went everywhere on public transport. We also took a river boat cruise from right by the hotel.

The giant Aqua Dom is a fun feature but I wouldn’t like a room that looks out onto it and down to the inner lobby as everyone going up and down the lifts can see into those rooms. There are some good, reasonably priced restaurants in the arcade right behind the hotel. We can recommend Emmas and the Italian restaurant. There’s also a Nordsee further up the road for a quick meal. We didn’t eat at the hotel restaurant but really enjoyed the terrific buffet breakfast which was included in the room price.

The room was only a moderate size for business class and for a 5 star hotel but was but well furnished in a modern style and fine for our needs. The bathroom wasn’t very big with a shower over the bath. It had an unusual design with a swing door that could be used to separate the quite roomy toilet part. There were nice toiletries provided – loved the hand cream - and the nice touch of a chocolate left on your pillow. We had free wifi which worked well. The only minor fault we could find was that the housekeeping occasionally let the hotel down. A used glass wasn’t replaced and only one wash cloth was provided. We asked for and got another one but then it disappeared again. Otherwise everything was great.

We have wonderful memories of a lovely visit and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the river and the Dom.

We stayed for 3 nights during our visit to Berlin. The hotel is in a great location as a base for your sightseeing. The service was first class and it's really worth having the buffet breakfast, which was great value. Our only disappointment was the sound of drilling from above our room, which happened each morning. We really didn't get to the bottom of the cause and the hotel staff were less than convinced about our claims. But we were offered a room change and have since received an email from the manager. That aside we really enjoyed our stay and we would stay again. Average room rate including breakfast 200 euro per night.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river.
