We followed the recommendation in the Top 10 Guide Berlin and went there. It was a bit rusty, both the restaurant in itself and the food and menu. OK is an appropriate judgement. Pasta dishes were good as well as beers. Savigny platz is nice and tranquil. Be aware that they don't accept cards.

This bar with its art and music posters, is a real Berlin local worthy of a few relaxing hours stop off at the end of a hard day's sightseeing or business.

The drinks card and menu is unfussy and down to earth, but when you are constantly travelling sometimes you just really need some home comfort, and this is it.

A real Berlin institution.

We had our aperitifs here most nights on our seven day hols. We just loved the beer and the atmosphere. It just had the most amazing charm. Staff always friendly and spoke good English. Beers just so good. We did not eat always no space.

This bar was local to us and we drank here most days. We felt very comfortable and relaxed drinking here. Very friendly and welcoming. Recommended if you are staying in this part of Berlin.

We stumbled upon this bar/restaurant on our first evening in Berlin, having felt very let down by the look of the Blue Frog, a well-rated bar on the opposite side of Grolmanstrasse. We looked across the street, from the near-deserted Blue Frog, to Zwiebelfisch, which was full of people inside and out.
This place is fine if you just want a drink, even though plenty of people were also eating there (the restaurant area is a separate room, or you can eat in the bar if you want to).
It took a while to get served, partly as we didn't understand that in Berlin you get waiter/waitress service rather than ordering drinks at the bar.
But when the beer came it was the best amongst quite a few we enjoyed in Berlin; a famous Berlin pils called Schultheiss. Even though we drank this same beer at another, very well-known, Berlin bar, it tasted better at Zwiebelfisch.
So, cheaper than drinking in the centre of the city, and a buzzy, upbeat atmosphere: well worth a visit if you staying in the neighbourhood, or before visiting one of the many restaurants nearby, or to eat there as well, although we cannot say how good the food was.
