Actually this was a funky and great place to stay. The rooms are all very different so you won't be sure what you get but all are funky and very clean.
Breakfast and attention to detail excellent... Steet girls outside are very entertaining so don't be put off by stories of prostitutes outside the door.. They are lovely and pose no threat!
Recommended hotel.. and very good location..

Room Tip: All different but be brave and take a chance!

I got the room No.1 and I was totally shocked while getting in the room after a tiring long flight. It's actually a bathroom with a bathtub covered by mattress. This room is just like a cell in the jail, you sleep with a sink, a toilet and a shower by your side without separation. Not to mention the bad air in the room. Since it's originally a bathroom, there's no air conditioning in the room. All that you can do to get fresh air is open the window by the bathtub (the bed) and get ready for the cold wind in the night. The front desk clerk refused to give me another room for the total occupancy of the day. Were it not for my late night arrival and being a total stranger to the city, I would definitely not stand staying in the room for a second. I was convinced by the photos and high score review on Booking.com. Maybe guests in other rooms have wonderful stay in Hotel 38. For me this is such a horrible experience to pay about hundred euros for a sleep in the bathtub. I think Hotel 38 shouldn't have made this bathroom a guest room. I feel really disappointed that the hotel would like to put their guest in this bad situation, and even more disappointed about how the clerk respond to my complaint. Definitely will not com back next time.

I stayed at Hotel 38 for four days for a business trip and was quite impressed with the level of service. First, they e-mailed to confirm the reservation (made via a large hotel reservation website) and to ask about my arrival time. Second, I managed to lose the invoice that I received at checkout, so I wrote the hotel asking them to send me a new one. Within five minutes they had replied to my e-mail attaching the invoice, and a few days letter I found the invoice in the post, too.

The hotel is spotless clean and appears to have been refurbished recently. The room was clean and spacious enough. The bathroom had a walk-in shower, which I particularly liked.

There are many places to eat around the hotel. I quite liked Surf and Sushi, just 500 m away.

This is a good find for the money. From tegal airport taxi is 18-20 euros. The hotel is located right down the street from a mini "whole foods market" type store which you can buy various foods. The wifi worked excellent as I didn't have one issue with it in five days. The breakfast in the morning was also top notch. The hotel is clean and well kept, and the staff was friendly and personable.

The room I was in was a single and it was like a little boys room. The bed was tiny and the theme was sailor with a floaty thing on the wall. Although maybe cute for some, it was a bit strange. The lock on the door has a trick getting it open, easy once u figure it out, click hard right. Also the place is quite the maze to actually get to your room, but all in all for the price it was a good find. I would stay here again, and on a budget I would look forward to staying here again.

Great location for this hotel and very easy to get to from the airport. Breakfast was really good and the room was nice and warm, which was a relief as it was freezing outside. Staff were really helpful in negotiating the German language section of the website of the Neue Museum so we could arrange tickets for the following day. Only downside was the inability to make a hot drink in the room which would have been nice getting back late at night. Can really recommend it though for a short break.

+ great location - I hadn't been using my car at all, only 3 minutes of the undergroud if you really need it, 15 minutes by foot to Reichstag
+ there is a parking place on the other side of the street, costs nearly as much as leaving a car on the street - 15 EUR a day
+ hotel is very clean and cosy
+ very quite place, I was sleeping excellent!
+ friendly stuff
+ modern interiors - it was great to see how this small space was used in 100%, IKEA should learn from them! ;)
+ tasty breakfast

- the room was very, very small - if you are not couple, and you want to spend more time in the hotel excepting sleeping and eating breakfast, it could be too small for you
- coffee - the coffee served for breakfast, was as weak as the coffee in Germany usually is, for the better one, made from the coffee machine you had to pay additonaly - that was a shame...

Room Tip: Ask for the room on the backyard side, it is very quite!
