“Excellent But Only If You Are Attending A Function At The Hotel”
Reviewed 7 May 2012

We stayed at the Estrel in February 2012 for a business function.

The Hotel is very large and recently renovated. We had a Junior Double Suite which was excellent. Lovely and large with a separate sitting area, two televisions, perfectly adequate bathroom with shower over the bath.

Spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Our room was at the front of the building which was very noisy from traffic - not a problem for us; with the freezing temperatures we kept the window closed but this could be an issue in the summer months.

Breakfast was plentiful with excellent hot and cold choices. The hotel was full when we attended but there were no issues with having to wait for breakfast it was all well organised with several areas being used

There are three restaurants, we sampled the Italian and Thai both of which were very good however, be aware that they may close early if custom is slow.

Going out of the Hotel to the main road and turning left there is a MacDonalds and a couple of supermarkets. Turning right at the main road is a nearer supermarket. There are also other restaurants etc within walking distance but the area is very dismal.

In our opinion this hotel is only suited to those attending functions at the Hotel. It is not a hotel to use if you are a tourist visiting Berlin because it is well out of the tourist area and is difficult to find your way to central Berlin, especially if the concierge gives you the wrong information as he did in our case. Also, do not think as we did to stay a little longer as there is ‘always something locally of interest to see’. The area surrounding the Estrel is awful - there is absolutely nothing to see just dog dirt and spit every few yards.

Taxi from the airport was efficient and cost no more than £20.00. Plenty of taxis always available outside the hotel.

For those attending for a convention the hotel is excellent and we would certainly recommend and return.

I came in order to attend a conference and stayed just for one night. As expected, the hotel is huge. The rooms bare, everything is there but there is nothing that would make you feel cosy. You go in there to sleep! There are no coffee making facilities unless I did not see them. The breakfast choice is wonderful but again, they have to cater for hundreds of guests and on my own I felt a bit lost. For a private visit I would definitely not choose this hotel. The area outside is not so good but the S-Bahn station is not far away.

The first impression you get when you enter ESTREL in Berlin, is that you are entering the central square of a small village, which is a very pleasant and welcoming feeling. The skylights and many windows give the area a sweet brightness that immediately gives you the message of a friendly environment.
In the atrium - this is what it's all about - there are many areas for you to eat, have a drink, relax, work and just hung out with your friends/colleagues/family.

The food was excellent in all restaurants and the breakfast was of good variety and quality. I would prefer better coffee though, since it was overburnt and not very tasty.

My overall impression is that ESTREL HOTEL & CONFERENCE CENTRE, is a good value for money choice and with a very decent quality of service.

Claiming to be the biggest, proved not to be a reason to visit...The rooms are cheap, my towels were not changed in 4 days, there is no shampoo or any other amenities in the bathroom, no Wi-Fi in rooms, internet connection costs 3 EUROS AN HOUR!!! every little thing will cost you there. The location is way out in the unpleasant burbs of Berlin, takes long time and expensive taxi fares to both airports, or to the city, train is available but not comfortable. Unless you are in some conference no reason to be there,In short, do everything to avoid it if you really want to enjoy Berlin!

This is a big busy hotel with lots of guests many of which attend the convention centre and concert venue. However, there are lots of very helpful staff to cater for these numbers. The bar and breakfast area were very well staffed and there was minimal waiting time. Reception and the concierge desk were quick to help and deal with check in and check out. Plenty of taxis immediately outside. Rooms were very clean and comfortable and the beds comfy. Bathroom was spacious and very clean. There is no or little view from the rooms in the 2nd wing however the window do open to offer fresh air. If your busness takes you to the eastern side of the city you cannot go far wrong than chosing this hotel which is also good value.

Location and ambience: The Estrel is located in Neukölln at the south-east end of Berlin. Stay away from this hotel if you want to explore Berlin as a tourist, because it will always take very long to get to the central sights. Stay away from the Estrel if you are looking for a hideaway. Otherwise, I can recommend the hotel as one of the best conference hotels I went to. Do not expect anything special here apart from the vast extent of the building and its atrium. ***1/2

Rooms: All rooms are modern and clean. The "deluxe" rooms are not worth the extra money. *** 1/2

Breakfast and Restaurants: The breakfast buffet offers a wide range of food from fruit and cereals over eggs and bacon. There are numerous restaurants in the atrium setting offering cuisine of all flavours (Thai, Italian, French, local). I did only try the Estrel Stube some years ago. There is also a bar where everyone meets after along convention day. Almost a "must" *** 1/2

Service: The service was v gd, from check-in over breakfast service to bar service. ****

Bang/Buck ratio: If you do not stick to the city centre, you will find a great service a a reasonable price. If you are here on a convention which is held in the hotel, stay here. It is definitely worth the money. ****

Overall rating: **** (for convention attendees)

Room Tip: Stay away from the rooms thet face the atrium. You may miss daylight.
