“nice business hotel, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2013

The Hyatt in Berlin is a good business hotel with modern style. The location is great, being a 10 minute walk to the Brandenburg gate (and can proceed to the Unter den Linden street), and the hotel is right next to the Tiergarten and the Potzdamer Platz.

Hotel facilites are good, all what you would expect from a business hotel. Wifi internet works well (btw for multiple devices), all over the hotel automatically. Therefore you don't have to worry about the hassle of logging out and back in.

I would recommend this place for short stays, and for those who have time to walk around the city.Great value for money!

We just got back from our 4 nights stay with Grand Hyatt. What we like most is the location.

Pros

Location: only 3 mins away from Potsdam Plaz (which is the central station on the map, and you can get the train (S and U) and railway all from the same place. If you are arriving from the airport, take the airport bus to Hauptbabnhof and take the train to Potsdam Plaz, it's only one stop away. We took a taxi from the airport and it cost Euro 19.

It is within walkable distance to Brendenburg gate, although you can take the train as well.

Room:
The room is fine, clean and tidy. The only minor drawback is the wardrobe which is in the bathroom. I like to air my clothes so this is not ideal. Our ventilator also seemed to be not working. There is a small TV in the bathroom but it didn't work in the first day.

Staff:
most staff are very helpful and friendly.

Cons:

Wifi access: the biggest drawback for us is the wifi access. It offers 30 mins free access to every guest every day. We thought it ran from midnight to midnight, but it fact, it's 30 mins every 24 hours, so we had to wait for 24 hours before we could log in again. There is a free wired access by the conceirge.

Breakfast is average - sausage, lots of bread, lots of fruits and cold meat. We expected to have more hot food. You need to order eggs/omlette via the waiter, and the portion is quite tiny. It also took about 20 mins for the eggs to arrive one morning.

Overall it was a very pleasant stay.

This stay was at Christmas and I noted that the Christmas Market in Potsdamer Platz continues to expand over the years, making the hotel's location a plus. There is a great deal to see and do within walking distance, and the S and U Bahn or taxi connections make any further destination easy to reach. The proximity to the Tiergarten makes the hotel well-situated for runners, and having the Potsdamer Platz Arkaden next door is very convenient. Finally, the food atmosphere and service in the Grand Club makes an upgrade well worth it. The rooms with a view to the Tiergarten are especially pleasant.

I've stayed at Grand Hyatt Berlin over 15 times over several years and the hotel, superb to begin with, continues to work to improve and upgrade. I stayed in one of the renovated rooms and the new wall panels gave it a warm yet modern look. The new blackout blinds are excellent, creating complete darkness for maximum restfulness. The new bedside controls for the blinds and lights are easy to use, even in the dark and when jet-lagged, in contrast to some overly-high-tech similar controls I've used elsewhere. For those who like modern design, the Renzo Piano architecture can't be beat--the lobby is sleek and spectacular, and the design reflects as well in the corridors and rooms. As always, the staff distinguished themselves, from the front desk personnel to the concierges. Kudos to the hotel for its continued commitment to excellence.

We (three double rooms) stayed here for three nights including NYE and all in all I would say that this is a fantastic hotel, with great amenities, however we did experience a couple of small problems.

Pros:

Good rooms, good size, very comfortable beds and pillows.
Beautiful bathroom.
Excellent health club, pool, spa, sauna etc (be prepared for nudity in the sauna/steam room)
Fantastic breakfast.

Cons.

Maybe wee were just unlucky, but all three couples in our party experienced problems with housekeeping. (rooms not made up / cleaned during the day) IMO that's not acceptable for a 5* hotel.

Check in. Two rooms ready at 2pm. The third not until 4.30. Again poor IMO.

Otherwise excellent, including location and staff.

Well placed in Berlin. 15 minutes by walk from Brandenburg Tor, Unter den Linden, Zoogarten, Alexander Platz. Close to restaurants.
Rooms are extremely comfortable, breakfast is great, reception is also very good (German, English, French and probably other langauges).
The piano bar is also great and we listened to a very good band there.
Extremely good beds, shower.
The overall outlook of the hotel is a bit "cold" (big and few decoration) but is comfortable and nice.
I am then warly recommanding this hotel.

A friend and I booked the Grand Hyatt for a three night city break in Berlin between Christmas and New Year's Eve. Having never been to Berlin before I didn't really know whether the location would be good or not (as Google Maps didn't afford many clues), but I'm pleased to say the Potsdamer Platz area is an excellent part of the city to stay in. It's a recently redeveloped part of Berlin so the buildings are contemporary and facilities are modern. It's within a short walk of sites such as the Sony Centre building, Holocaust memorial, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag (tip: If you're planning on visiting the Reichstag you need to book a reservation online a few days in advance). Potsdamer Platz is also where a number of railway, S-bahn and U-bahn lines converge so it's really easy to get about to other parts of the city. The hotel itself is beautiful. Lots of art and sculptures about the place. On arrival we were greeted by the concierge at our taxicab, and check-in was really quick and easy. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was on the fourth floor and faced inwards, so plenty of sunlight (there are blackout curtains) but not much of a view - but this didn't bother us much. The in-room entertainment included a Bang & Olufsen television which had a cable so you could plug in your mp3 player. English channels included Sky News and CNN. The bathroom was big and the bath is situated in a glass partitioned wet-room which doubles up as a shower. It looked as if there was also a television in the bathroom but we couldn't quite figure out how this turned on. Our room rate included breakfast. The choice was very large, hot and cold, and the quality was spot on. Eggs prepared to order how you like them. Again the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We didn't eat lunch or dinner at the hotel as we preferred to eat out, however if it's anything like breakfast I imagine it would be superb. The hotel has a nice bar on the ground floor which we had a few drinks in. We also checked out the swimming pool and spa on the top floor which looks out over the city (so don't forget to pack your swimwear). Wifi at the hotel is expensive but you do get a complementary 30 minutes for each device, and if you need more there is unlimited free wifi at the Starbucks across the road from the hotel.

The Grand Hyatt in Berlin is a great hotel, better located than where it appears to be on a map. You are just opposite the Berlin Philarmonie, 5mn walk from Podzdamer Platz, 10mn from Brandeburg gate and 15mn from check point Charlie. Rooms are comfortable. Service in room could be better. The concierge is not very knowledgeable. The few times I asked him something, he did not know or gave me the wrong information. When I asked him about tickets for the Philharmonie, he told me that were all sold out, that the box office was closed and offered me to find me a ticket for 300 euros. I crossed the road, went to the concert hall and was surprised to find the box office open and to be able to buy a ticket for 180 euros. So watch out. Despite this I still recommend the place as it is a good hotel. 2 good restaurants as well (the German one Mesa in particular)
