We stayed at the Hackescher Markt for three nights as we were visiting our daughter that is studying here. We had a suite which is in the inner courtyard, so it is very quiet, a little bit dark though, our room was clean, big and comfortable, bathroom was new, we had a bathtub as well as a shower, plenty of space for personal belongings. WIFI was working properly but it was a bit of hassle having to log in and out all the time, it expired quite quickly. Breakfast was very good, lots of bread, cheese, cold meats, fruits, juices. You could also have eggs any style just by ordering them, the lady serving breakfast was pleasant and competent. Receptionists were helpful, we were able to leave our luggage there for the whole day as we had a late evening flight.
A bit strange though to have to ring the bell to get into the hotel, but you get used to it after the first day.

Room Tip: Inner courtyard by all means because of the tram stop.

As a first time visit and a city break to Berlin we could not have got a better location for sightseeing, trinket shopping, shoe shopping for wife (eak) and choice on food and drink for me (eak/squeak). Hackescher market rooms are clean, contemporary, safe and inexpensive, breakfast was very good with pleasant and helpful staff on the floor and the reception team if a little “do this don’t do this” in a polite German fashion. We had to ask for extra pillows which arrived promptly and there is a room fridge for water storage. Adequate shower with good pressure if a little cramped for my ample girth, use of a shower curtain reminded me of my distant youth. The room wi-fi worked well, the beds (if a little squashed against the wall,) and linen was comfortable, crisp and clean. However if there had been AC instead of a ceiling fan the sleep would have been more comfortable as the rooms got pretty warm. Only significant bug bear is the tram park was at the front of the hotel so there was a period of the late night and the early morning when if you left the window open to cool the room (see above) the noise of the tram shunts where a little annoying so in future I would ask for a room, at the rear of the hotel. But I would use this hotel again given the balance of all the factors.

Room Tip: get a room at the back of the hotel

i have been staying here off and on for 4-5 years. once in a while i have stayed elsewhere, depending on with whom i am traveling or where my berlin-living children are living but i LOVE this small, well-located hotel. my husband especially enjoys the central location and great breakfast where the staff will happily cook eggs. we have met out-of-town friends for breakfast and it has never been a problem to add their meal to our charge. my sister and i will be here in december for 5 nights and i can't wait!

rooms of all sizes are well-appointed and clean. i have stayed in everything from a single to a junior suite. as always, i have to praise the heated towel rack and heated bathroom floor!! no hand lotion (rarely provided on the continent) but no big deal!!

give this hotel a try. you won't be disappointed,

Chrisitina was especially helpful on our most recent stay!

We booked a superior room which was pleasantly furnished and extremely clean. The staff were very helpful .The position of the hotel is very convenient for transport and museums. The dining room was very bright and supplied a varied breakfast choice with large variety of breads. Only one member of staff catered for breakfast but she was extremely efficient ,pleasant and made a great pot of tea!

Room Tip: Quiet rooms are around the courtyard.

Location within easy walking to Museum Island as well as train and trams makes this a perfect hotel from which to explore Berlin. We used the train to explore many parts of Berlin including a visit to Potsdam. The only caution I would give is Hackescher Mkt station is not a central hub for some destinations necessitating a change of trains at one of the main stations.
Our room was large, more like a suite really, with comfy beds etc. We appreciated windows that open for fresh air at night (not always possible in hotels!). Bathrooms are good sized, new, modern and spotless. There is no air-conditioning in the room although we did not need it in September. It may be an issue in high summer.
The only niggle is the price of the breakfast: 17 Euro each. My husband and I eat a light small breakfast so this is not an option. We chose to eat brunch instead while out and about. All in all a wonderful 5-day stay !

Room Tip: Most rooms face inner courtyard which is quiet at night. Hotel has good double glazed windows.

I couldn't believe the location of this hotel. Within a 5-minute walk you can reach all of the best museums in Berlin. Three-minutes in the other direction takes you to the Hackescher Markt train station, which gives easy access to the rest of the city. As other reviewers have noted, there are many, many restaurants in this area, with all types of food and in a variety of price ranges. Berlin is a great walking city, and you will feel very comfortable in this neighborhood. Our family loved the breakfasts which in addition to a buffet of German breads, smoked salmon, six types of jams, croissants, cheeses and meats, also offered eggs of various types made to order, as well as expresso drinks made to order. The breakfast room was staffed by one waitress only. I have no idea how she maintained such good cheer and efficiency. She knew us by the second day, and just checked in to make sure we wanted "our usual coffee drinks." The staff at the front desk are friendly and helpful in ordering cabs and wake-up calls and giving directions to anywhere you might want to go. I did not find them saavy about restaurant advice, but this is a minor quibble. We found the wi-fi uneven. In fact, our original room could not get wi-fi reception at all (at least not with my computer). The staff initially thought they could solve the problem by rebooting the router, but when that didn't work, a more senior staff member explained that some rooms in the hotel were too far away for the wi-fi to reliably work. At that point, we asked to switch rooms. Nothing was available that day, but we were upgraded to a suite the following day for the remainder of our stay at no extra charge. We had deliberately booked rooms that opened up onto the courtyard, as their is a tramline that stops on the street side of the hotel. The courtyard rooms are more expensive, but worth it. Also be sure to realize that "a double" at this hotel means a double bed and not twin beds. European designations can sometimes be confusing for Americans as it was for us. This hotel would not be good for someone with mobility issues as there is a small flight of stairs up to the reception area. The rooms were of comfortable size, with large bathrooms, and plenty of hotwater and other amenities. The building is newish. It's a small hotel (maybe 20 rooms) which contributes to it's friendly feel. By the way, there were fans in the bedrooms, which made me think that the hotel might not have air conditioning in the individual rooms. We traveled in August, but it was quite cool (temperatures ranged from the 50s at night to the low 70s during the day). We enjoyed opening the windows in the evening for fresh breeze. No problems with insects.

Room Tip: Choose courtyard rooms to avoid street noise. Also, during the summer time, pick a higher floor, if...

Easy to get to from Hackescher Mkt railway station. Good location to many tourist sites eg Museum Island, shops and cafes. Great fresh and wholesome breakfast. Reception staff very helpful. WIFI excellent, although if left idle for sometime you need to re log in every time.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the courtyard avoid street noise. No air conditioning, is a major problem in summer as...
