Location was great, breakfast generous and hotel decorated in old style luxury throughout (with all mod cons!) . We had nice balcony but not of use this time of year (February)! Location is ideal for exploring this very spread out city with lots of busses and UBahn outside our door.
Only drawback was the bathroom which had an unsealed sliding glass door which meant that some odour spread into bedroom - maybe it was just in our room.
It's a cheap hotel. They have 4 Stars but in reality, by international standards, I would give it a 2+.
I arrived a 2 pm and 4 people were at the registration desk. 3 Where occupied between themselves and one was working. He was slow and not sure what he was doing having to ask all the time the others which really did not want to get disturbed. I would say it was a bit chaotic the registration. Also as we could not have the room before 3 pm I had to wait for another person who could help me with the luggage meanwhile. After 10 minutes wait he took care of the luggage. The rooms are simple but very clean.The location is very good and when you are out the whole day use the hotel only for sleeping it's alright as the beds are very comfortable.
Just returned from visiting this hotel with my daughter for two nights. The hotel was quite easy to find, we got the train from Schonefeld airport to Zoologischal Gartens station then the U-Bahn to Uhlandstr station, on leaving this station, the hotel is about 100 yards in front of you...look for the Hagen Dazs signs/umbrellas.
The reception staff were cordial and helpful when needed, the room which was a standard was clean but basic. Beds nice and comfortable, bathroom lovely but very very small. Really would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, definitely lacked this!
Location of hotel in a good district with easy and quick transport to Central locations in the city.
Breakfast was a bit of a let down, not the best options if you don't like eggs! Would be nice to have more variation.
Slight concern about the room safe too, had some issues with it, even though the instructions were followed to the letter. Not the best when security is important.
All in all a good and pleasant stay, just a couple of points as mentioned that could be improved.
Just stayed here for four nights. Fantastic location for everything ,close to public transport ,we got a cab from airport on arrival €45 but train back from zoological garden station..ten min walk..€3.70!
Hotel room basic but clean and beds made daily,staff friendly and helpful.
Hair dryer useless so advise taking a more powerful one! Would have been nice to have coffee/ tea making facilities too.
Haagen Dazs parlour a must next door,we didn't stay B and B and found a lovely place for breakfast called Cappuccinos.Lovely visit to Berlin and would recommend here.
I stayed at the Hotel California for 4 nights in the end of July 2017 holidaying in Berlin. The last time I stayed I was a little disappointed, especially with the breakfast, so I was a little exited as i checked in again.
The check in was very efficient this time. It seems they had my name and details on record, so the paperwork was minimal.
The room was very spacious with a nice double bed, a desk, minibak and chairs and table. It had air-condition that worked well, and itkept the temperature at a nice, comfortable level despite the heat outside and without making any noise at all.
The hotel is located on the Kurfurstendamm not far from railwaystations, U-bahn and bus services. Shopping is very good in the neighborhood wit a lot of stores from leading brands. It is hard to find a better located hotel at a better price in Berlin.
Based on my experiences the last time I was here, I did not have great expectations as I went to breakfast on the fist morning of my stay. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite many people eating the staff managed to clear the tables as they were vacated and they were soon ready for new customers. The breakfast buffet was varied with a wide selection of food, and the staff refilled as soon as an item was emptied. All in all a very good experience this time.
The only item that was not to my satisfaction was the stability/bandwidth of the Wi-Fi network provided by the hotel. In my room it was not stable, it came and went, and the bandwidth was not even sufficient to download a few pictures. I think this was particularly bad in my room, as others experienced better coverage in their rooms.
All in all The Hotel California is a hotel that has a perfect location and offers good value for money. I'll be back!
