Easy walk to many Berlin attractions, very close to Checkpoint Charlie & Friedrichstrasse (elegant shopping), & fascinating historical & photo footage on display nearby of the Berlin Wall story. We had only a day to explore Berlin, so the hop-on-hop-off bus tour was a great way to see the highlights & then decide which ones to further investigate - Museum Island has several fantastic museums, highly recommend the Pergamon Museum for history buffs, & the 19th/20th century Art Museum was excellent. Beware the "24 hr" tag of the hop-on-hop-off bus tours however, ours was not doing the full circuit after 6pm, so a long walk back to the hotel was necessary after all.

Hotel just down round the corner from Checkpoint Charlie. Must have been less than 200 yards to the U-bahn station Stadmitte (U2, U6 lines). Staff very friendly and gave excellent service bar knowing where to eat in the local vicinity - did direct us to the Bombay (Indian) which was a long walk / U-bahn ride away up Freidrichstrasse (to the stop of the same name). Room was way big enough for two of us, excellent bathroom facilities. Stayed twice in one week (on way in and way out). On the "way out" stays arrival we were allocated a suite which was far too big but this is not a complaint and again staff were as helpful as possible. Breakfast was a bit expensive for what it was but there was load of choice.
Would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone.

I've stayed in a couple of Mercure hotels over the years and yes they are a chain, and I do prefer to stay in individually-run hotels, but this Mercure is a corker!
It's ideally located just one block away from Checkpoint Charlie (as it's name suggests). In fact, if you walk along to the intersection of Schuetzenstrasse and Freidrichstrasse, and read the hoardings up along the site of the wall, you can even pick out the building from the photos from the 1980's in which the hotel is now housed before the wall came tumbling down.
The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, and the rooms are absolutely spotless. Some have coffee machines and flat screen TV's and balconies. There's a sauna. The U-Bahn at Stadtmitte is 3 minutes walk away on a direct line to a bus connection to Tegel. It doesn't have a great view, but it's a city hotel - if you're spending a huge amount of time in your hotel room in a city like Berlin then you might as well have taken your needlepoint and a DVD of past episodes of Home & Away.
Within 5 minutes walk are Checkpoint Charlie and the accompanying museum; the Currywurst Museum; and the Stasi museum. Within 10 minutes you can visit the Typography of Terror or the Gendarmenmarkt.
We were offered a complimentary glass of wine on our visit - the bar even has a Wurlitzer jukebox - enjoy a drink in the Weingarten.
The buffet breakfast at 18 euros was a bit steep for me. But there are loads of good local places to enjoy a coffee and pastry or croissant.
There is an interesting local selection of restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed Maximillian's (excellent starters); Entrecote Fred's looked busy every night; the local Italian Mandala was highly recommended. We tried to eat at Lutter and Wegner (bistro section) who were incerdibly snotty. One block north was a really unpretentious beer hall with outdoor tables serving good food.
Can't go wrong really. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: 6h and 7th floors seem to have the balconies.

This is a lovely hotel in a fantastic central location near to some great restauarants and with easy access to the UBahn.

The rooms were large, clean and quiet. I didn't use any of the other facilities in the hotel (restaurant etc). I wandered into the gym (two cardio marchines with no weights at all) but it was not only sparsely equiped but it was rather warm as well.

The hotel was an absolute bargain (I paid £48 for the room per night) and would absolutely stay again. One thing I did notice, whilst sitting in recpetion, was that different customers were presented with different information and treated differently according to room rate. As I only paid £48 I got very basic information and was ushered to my room rather quickly. Such segmentation should not occur!

Booked a double room but were given a room in the Residenz part of hotel . the room was big! it had a small kitchen and dining area as well as a sitting area and desk. The bed was comfortable with separate duvets which pleased my wife. The desk had a flat screen TV which you could swivel between the sleeping area and the sitting area.
Berlin was a fantastic city and will visit again to see the sites we did not have time to visit. The city is very clean and the rail system excellent.Their are so many good restaurants it was hard to choose. We went with recommendations and were not disappointed both by the food ,service and the price.definately the best city break that we have been on.
