“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 June 2013

We stayed for 4 nights in a huge, well-designed superior room. It was like a suite with a large lounge and two other lounge chairs, wardrobes, a fridge, coffee machine & a balcony. The bed was very comfortable. The toilet was in a separate room off the foyer area and the bathroom had a walk-in shower with good water pressure. The room and all the hotel public areas were very clean and tidy and all the staff friendly, helpful and efficient. The breakfasts were excellent both in variety and quality of food. The hotel is in a good location for exploring Berlin & I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we are in Berlin.

Excellent hotel, quite impress by this Mercure Hotel. Everything perfect from the welcome desk to the room with separate WC . Breakfast quite extensive. Great location near the U bahn Stadtmitte, very near the Check Point Charlie. About 30 min walking through the Gendarmemarkt towards the museum isle. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Had room 118 with view to an interior courtyard with trees. Very quite.

This was a great hotel within walking distance to lots of interesting places. Our room was clean and quiet, food in bar area and breakfast was great. We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would recommend it.

We usually stay at at least one Mercure hotel while traveling in Europe and we were happy with our stay at this hotel. The room was large for 2 people with ample room to move around and it had 2 closets, 1 for each of us. The bathroom had a large walk in shower and the the basin area was a decent size. Breakfast was in a nice bright room and the offerings were plentiful and all of the food was really good, with various egg dishes, bacon and sausage, great cereal/muesli selections and lots of fruit. There was a large selection of other meats and cheeses and the coffee was very good and you could request a take away cup for coffee too. It was very easy to get around to the different sights from the hotel location. All in all we were very happy with this hotel and would stay there again.

Beware to check your reservations with this hotel. As the name implies, there are apartments (residenz) also next to the hotel. We wanted two regular rooms, but were shuttled off to the apartment side and there the bedrooms are on another floor than the main part of the apartment. So, for carrying luggage, or for those that have a difficult time with slippery / varnished stairs, do NOT look here.

The breakfast was decent but a bit over-priced (very typical of Berlin, so no surprise). Overall, avoid the apartments! Even the idea of a sky light over the bed is crazy when the sun rises at 4 AM!!

The hotel is in an exelent location, near 2 metro stations, and near some touristic attractions like Gendarmenmarkt and Checkpoint Charlie. And it´s also possible to walk towards the Berlin Dome, the Brandenbourg Gate and the Reichstag.
Very friendly hosts. Highly recomended.

I'm slightly confused by all the good reviews of this place. Yes it is very well located, and yes the rooms are spacious, but it has some drawbacks for a supposedly 4* hotel:

- there is no room service. Not just food, but they will not bring anything to you. e.g. I asked for a knife and fork and plate to be brought up to the room, but I had to go down to the bar to get them (I ordered a delivery from outside the hotel).

- breakfast is extremely rudimentary, and completely self-service.

- I paid for a premium room, and yes it is spacious, but there is no bath. The shower looks good but the weak water pressure makes it very underwhelming.

- You can't buy wifi access online, because the system doesn't work. I put through 'successful' purchases on my card three times without receiving user credentials and eventually had to give up and buy access myself from the front desk.

This is the kind of hotel that makes you do everything yourself and isn't particularly interested in helping you out. 4*? I would say it is a satisfactory 3* hotel but nothing more.
