The breakfast is fantastic! The rooms are small, but the showers are nice. By the way, the art is not original...
- Room Service
This is a little favourite of mine when visiting Berlin. It is a fairly simple old East Berlin hotel that has been updated into a simple boutique type hotel. Everything is quite simple but it works very well for me when visitingthe Mitte area.
I have always found service efficient but simple. A lot is done by self service, grab a glass of wine or a coffee down in the lounge area and take it back up to your room.
I enjoy the understated breakfast cafe, which is a self service buffet.
If you want a non-chain hotel in a residential part of the city with nice staff, spacious rooms with high ceilings, and lots of character, this could be for you. Think old wooden floors, (but not too creaky), chandaliers, ornate wooden cornicing, dark wood and lots of 19th C (and before) art, you've got a bit of the flavour of this hotel. The hotel's origins date to 1920 but it was rebuilt after being destroyed in the war so it's not decrepit by any manner of means. Breakfasts are substantial enough but a bit on the plain side - not the best muesli I've seen, unappealing scrambled eggs in various forms, so-so sausages. However the bread and croissants were very good and the salmon was fresh, as were the boiled eggs. In the rooms, the bathroom is top-notch with quality shower, sink, lights and tiling. The mattress was very comfortable but the pillow was a large square one - yeuch. And the curtains could have done with being lined to block out at least some of the light. Overall, though, a hotel with real character in a nice district, five minutes walk from Nordbanhof.
We came back for the second time simply because the hotel is in a good location and the people were friendly back in '09. But that was 2009, the times they are a- changin'! Business must go very well for the Honigmond, 'cause they couldn't care less about their costumers in 2011. The lack of service in the restaurant made us check out early and look for an other hotel. Guest from the Honigmond hotel are not welcome in the Honigmond restaurant even though that's were breakfast-buffet is! They want you to leave a.s.a.p because during holidays locals like to visit this place too. By the way, the waitress was friendly at one time when she asked if we wanted a glass of water with our meal, later on we understood why, they had charged 4 euros(!) on the bill for two glasses of water.
Very good location in the old eastern part of Berlin. Close by to Friedrichstrasse, museums, bars and restaurant area. Helpful staff and friendly attitude. The buffet breakfast was absolutely wonderful. ll kind of different coffe, fresh fruit, all kind of cheese, different types of bread and a nice breakfast/restaurant area.
A must stay if you like spacious rooms in an old building and love to have a breakfast feast while travelling.
The Honigmond is an elegant and well-situated hotel with a good restaurant. The high prices give rise to high expectations and so the main issue I had is value for money.
The room was elegant but small: decor a bit kitsch with gilt framed pictures. The bathroom was small with no frills e.g. the soap dispenser in the shower remained empty during the 2 days of our visit and the towels were inadequate.
The location was in a quiet side-street.. However the weather was hot and sunny and with no A/C or blinds on the large windows this made the room so hot at night that sleeping became difficult.
The inclusive buffet breakfast in the restaurant next door was OK, but not up to the standard of other hotels in this price range.
I was irritated by the receptionist's insistence on payment in cash for the room in advance of checking out.
