Okay, so a lot of the information in this museum is quite interesting. But it's one of the most poorly laid out museums in Berlin, completely packed with tourists and is way overpriced. If you want to learn more about the Wall and the Cold War, go to the much better Deutsches Historisches Museum (German Historical Museum) instead, or buy a book on the subject.

I went with two teens, and we all really struggled with the layout.

There really isn't any narative layout to the museum, it's just a jumble of items. Even when they have collected a couple of things together that are related, the items often appear out of order.

Its a shame, since there is definitely a need to tell the story of the wall, and the Cold War. In particular, why people wanted to leave.
The museum does have some amazing examples of how people hav escaped, so it is worth investigating. But it is a struggle.

I did not like this part of my otherwise lovely Berlin trip. A small and very hot place (no A/C, some weak fans) with cheap memorabilia. Too much text on the walls make you wish you went into a website instead. Too crowded and too expensive. They charge as much as a real and much larger museum.
Skip it.

Private museum documenting the escape attempts from the east part of the city to the west. Or so we thought. It is just part of the museum.

The museum documents attempts to escape East Germany to the West. In car trunks, In two suitcases together on a train shelf, In tank molding machines, Through tunnels under the wall or in a balloon over the wall.

But as we visit room after room, We discovered that the museum also chronicles a variety of people and events which all share a non-violent struggle for freedom.

Raoul Wallenberg and Gandhi, Khodorkovsky and Rosa Parks. East Germanys June seventeenth 1953 , The Hungarian uprising against the Soviet Union in 1956, Tiananmen Square Chinese protests in 1989. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy who spoke during his visit to Berlin in 1963 against the wall and Ronald Reagan that called Michael Gorbachov to bring down the wall. Articles, pictures and movies.

Very Interesting museum to anyone who is interested in modern history.

This museum is a great place to go if your want information on the years of the Cold War. They have amassed a tremendous amount of facts, images, memorabilia, etc.
There are a few shortcomings that have pushed its rating down to 3, particularly the first 2 points that follow:
# mostly not accessible to persons with disability (including limited mobility, sight or hearing)
# almost no benches or chairs throughout the museum. For those who are mobile but do need some rest, such as elderly, reduced mobility or injured (or just overall unfit people!) will have a very hard time seeing all the exhibit. Keep that in mind when planning your visit.
# 50 cents requested for WC usage!? Did not understand that one after paying a ticket...
# given the cost of the ticket I expected it to be a bit more well kept, with better conservation overall.
