“Small museum by checkpoint charlie ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2014 via mobile

This is a small museum by checkpoint charlie. Some interesting items on exhibit like an original trabant car and equipment used to spy by the Stasi. It's a quick walk through. More interesting is the gift shop. You can buy a small piece of the Berlin Wall as well as mini trabants and lots more.

“Very interesting museum, but need a reorganization”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2014

The Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie is a very special museum and is definitely worth a visit. Not many people know that the museum was already founded in 1962 by human rights activist Dr. Rainer Hildebrandt, just a year after the first generation of the Berlin Wall was built. You will find the
stories of all who risked their lives and escaped to West Germany and all who died trying to. You can see all the objects which they used to escape. From a simple shopping cart where a mother hid her son, to cars with special compartments, self made cable carts, ultra light planes to a hot balloon, it is all their. Some escaped and brought their escaping gear right into the museum. This makes the museum unique all over the world. That said, there are some improvements to be made. The museum itself is outdated and not very logical organized. I presume caused by the fact that it has expanded over 50 years bit by bit. It is over-informative, with too many displays all together and to many signs and text. We rented audio guides, which gives good information, but the numbering is hard to find. Some numbers are big and some are very small or could not be found at all. Maybe it is a matter of budget, but the museum really needs a reorganization. Therefore I did not give a 5 star rating, but still 4 stars. You should not mis it and it will give your visit to Checkpoint Charlie more weight.
On the upper floors there are other interesting human rights displays from Gandi to Walesa, Martin Luther King, Ronald Reagan, NATO and more.

This museum tells you all about the wall from its beginning to its end and people's experiences. There is a lot to read.

“Fascinating”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014 via mobile

We spent a good couple of hours here during a short break to the city. Theres a LOT of interesting pictures and information. We really enjoyed the exhibition. My only criticism is that the route you were supposed to take through the museum was a bit confusing. In places arrows on the floor guide you but elsewhere they have rubbed away. Definitely worth a visit - a must if you are interested in the social and political history of the wall.
