“Lovely side trip”
Reviewed 7 September 2013

Very much worth the trip on the u-bahn 3. Lovely collection and very well presented. Only problem was that much of the information was only in German. Particularly enjoyed the collection of Pacific art with a lovely display of boats. Fee included in Museum Pass

“Expensive art collections”
Reviewed 13 July 2013

I found a mix of different things from around the globe ..back in history and also some new things ..2001 ..the area around is nice and easy to reach by u-bahn 3 from Nollendorf station ..
From Indonesia I saw only a budha head from the Borobudur temple next to some other budha heads from Thailand etc..
From thailand was a special collection about six groups of people in the north ..was nice and entertaining ...
The gards of the complex can't speak propper english ..it took them 15 minute to explain me that I had to save my bag on a counter ..for free ..

Well worth the trip to Dahlem Dorf on the U-Bahn. This is one of the finest ethnological collections in Europe. Not as flash as Quai Branly in Paris (although some might consider that a plus), but still a knockout if you love tribal art and ethnography / anthroplogy. The collections are laid out geographiocally with a fine Pre-Columbian section, a great South Seas collection of Pacific art. This section is particularly strong on New Guinea and the Solomons - former German colonines. Interesting African collection and good Native American stuff. It's almost too much to take in one one visit. I cannot understand the viewer who rated this museum as "average". It certainly is not - in fact it has got to be in a world top ten of museum collections of this kind. If you don't like ethnological museums, don't go.

“A gem in a city full of fantastic museums”
Reviewed 27 April 2013

This was one of the best museums I visited when in Berlin, and that's certainly an achievement given the high calibre of their galleries and museums. The collection is breathtaking and the thought that has clearly gone into the presentation of the artworks is superb. Its location is not central, but do not be deterred. Although everything about the museum is unassuming, the tourist board should be crowing about the museum and its holdings.
