“Great!!”
Reviewed 28 July 2014 via mobile

We stayed 5 nights in late july. We really liked it. We arrived at 7 am but they were able to give us a room at that hour. Our room was specious, with modern and simplistic design with consideration of the possible needs. The hotel is conveniently located and near Ku'damm. Our room was quite with excellent soundproofing. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The concierge personnel was the best: They were knowledgable, speak very good English and really helpful. We had a problem with our train tickets. They even send a personnel to the train station to sort our problem. I highly recommend this hotel and we will for sure stay in WA Berlin again in the future.

Visited Berlin in July, 2014. The WA is a stunning hotel. The decoration is a beautiful and luxurious modern style; very well maintained all over. Rooms are excellent, so roomy they should get larger TVs whenever they renovate. Great beds, very nice breakfast, attentive wait staff at breakfast.
Very friendly staff at reception; helpful concierges. In general a great property, however I cannot get over the horrible fact that a hotel of this category charges outrageous fees for internet use. 12 euros for one hour online!!! The location is OK, but not as central as you would expect from this brand, just across the street from the Zoo train station. It is very easy however to move around Berlin due to its excellent public transportation system.
Once again, the hotel is great and I do recommend it, but internet should be included, it is not a luxury anymore.

We arrived early in Berlin Sunday (the day of the German v. Argentina world cup match) we were greeted by friendly smiles and a staff that clearly wanted to make us feel special. We checked in and went to the Romanisches Cafe (in the Hotel) while they got our room ready. (We got there in the morning so we did not expect them to have our room ready.)

The Romanisches Cafe has great food, wonderful coffee and a hot chocolate that had my wife close to addiction. The deserts in the glass case are just plain art, they look so nice you hate to bite into them (but you will because they taste better than they look !). Again staff in here was great and all smiles and all spoke english.

The front desk called us while at the cafe that our room had been prepared, we got a personal escort up to the room with a brief but useful explanation of the amenities. Our room was on the top floor (15) with an incredible view. I think they called it a Double Suite, great king size bed very comfy....big bathroom (Seperate tub and shower) and nice living area,

I am not going to give you a blow-by-blow of our trip but think its important to point out the special stuff they made happen for us. I mentioned we arrived the day of the World Cup match, the concierage managed to get us over to Dicke Wirtin known as a favorite for the locals in Berlin for German food. and just what we wanted to watch the match with locals over a good meal and good beer. When Germany one the match, I could not imagine a better place to be. In talking with one of the staff later in the week he was stunned that we managed to get a table as they were reserved weeks in advance. We continued to come back every day for dinner recommendations and every time they hit it out of the park.

I recommend you take the time to meet and talk with the staff, they are ALL very nice and will give you great tips to make your stay wonderful.

I hope your stay is as nice as ours, if you go in the summer look for the terrace to open up and just some up the sun set with a nice drink and a good Cuban Cigar (if your so inclined...)

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms have a great view, but the side facing the old church is likely the best.

Recently stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in Berlin and unfortunately have to leave a mixed review.
The property itself is truly 5 star with all modern amenities, high end decoration and luxurious rooms. The reception team (especially Ms. Stefanie) and the concierge were also very welcoming and offered a perfect service (check-in, restaurant recommendations and bookings etc.)

The problems however started when we had reported our blocked shower drainage. After turning on the shower for only a little while the bathroom started to flood. We reported this twice and after we left the hotel for the day returned with the problem unfixed. We had to report a third time and wait in the room for someone to come and fix it (communication problems?)

Furthermore, minor issues with housekeeping - although the room was clean it was not properly done. The coffee cups we used for the Nespresso coffee were not washed and put back into the cupboard. (details do matter for hotels that rate themselves 5 star). To make matters worse, and I sympathize with this - on the last day we stayed the whole hotel had a technical problem and there was no warm water for not just our room, but we found out it was for the entire hotel. Talking to the front office - they seemed a bit confused about it and we got different comments from different people as to when this would be fixed again. Only after some time we found out that the we could shower at the gym/spa. Although this was not very convenient it was better than to board our flight unshowered. I feel like that this situation could have been managed better especially considering the class of the hotel.

I guess the issues we were facing could easily been avoidable - it comes from lack of thoroughness and attention to detail, i.e. communication. If not - this hotel truly has the potential to be among the top hotels in Berlin, the location and building is great - but a 5 star hotel is meant to provide top attention to detail and convenience - our stay there, sadly, the waldorf Astoria berlin did not live up to that promise.

After stays in luxury hotels in East Berlin, this time I chose the Waldorf Astoria because -at last - there now is a true luxury hotel near Kurfürstendamm. To make a long story short, quality of the rooms, service and food are excellent and the price level is moderate. The location is not yet as it was in the golden days but with the latest investments (Bikini, Zoo Palast, refurbishment of Gedächtniskirche), the West is back. Some paper wrote the hotel is Art Déco, I would just say it's modern chic. The rooms are spacious and if you book one with a view it is spectacular. You can even open the windows to get some unconditioned air and you will find all the goodies that make your stay more comfortable. The sound proof is outstanding, you cannot hear a thing and you are in the middle of Berlin! I found some stains in the marble but since I couldn't clean them off it must be a material issue. After a total breakdown of the entertainment system, I had to reboot it(installed on an Apple mini, very stylish but apparently not stable). Unfortunately the daily newspaper wasn't delivered to my room even though it was offered to me at checkin. There is no free WiFi in the rooms which nowadays is a shame. I don't understand why they try to make money on that, it's standard service you can ask for in a five star hotel. Breakfast is buffet style with all the advantages and disadvantages. I would prefer fresh scrambled eggs as the ones in the pott are always dry and clotted. They may have that but it wasn't offered. I was happy to find Weisswürste and sweet mustard but then again there were no Brezn' (preztel). And the pepper casters are so American, please offer some pepper mills with good pepper in it. Small things that make a difference. Other than that you won't miss a thing at breakfast. The bar offers everything you can ask for, the service is impecable. I have different views on interior design but that is subject to personal taste. There is a library on the 15th floor with a 360 view over the city and (wow), there is free WiFi for up to eight devices! It's the perfect spot for a cup of tea after an extensive shopping tour. I have not had the opportunity to test the highly rated restaurant and the SPA but that is a good reason to go back. Staff is very friendly and helpful without being stiff or snooty and this includes everyone from entrance to reception, restaurant and bar, congrats! Go see and enjoy!

The WA in Berlin really stands up as the choice in Berlin. Good location by Zoo, with great quality. Stylish bar and cafe. Rooms are excellent. Compares favourably to the Hilton Mohrenstrasse and the Intercon. Do it !
