“Perfect quiet in the middle of the city”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

Maybe because we asked for (and got) courtyard rooms on a high floor, but I have never had such a quiet room in any hotel. The hotel is also fantastically clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and courteous. I booked directly with the hotel, and the non-refundable advance rate was unbeatable value. I would definitely return.

We were very impressed with the hotel. We stayed for 3 nights midweek and the hotel did seem rather quiet. We had a 10th outwardly/street facing room which was great because I am happy to watch the world go by from the nearly floor to ceiling windows. Even the bathroom has two floor to ceiling windows so you could like in the bath and watch the skyline. The only challenge was that because it was the top floor there was a lip on the roof which obscured the skyline unless you were standing on the window base/sill.

Our room was on the curve of the building and we though it rather small. You could not adequately walk around the bed without climbing over the chair. The chair itself did not have a foot stool like other rooms because frankly it wouldn't fit I expect.

The Nespresso Coffee is a nice addition but the lack of alternatives such as hot chocolate and tea was dissapointing.

The Staff were great, helpful and friendly as you might expect from a five star hotel.

We had a room only rate and did not have breakfast in the hotel because frankly at €21 for an American Breakfast is too expensive and so is a €14 continental.

I gave the hotel a 4 out of 5 because of 3 things only. The size of the room, charging €12.50 per 24hours of internet and the pillows*

*They give you 4 pillows on the bed but I would think that you would need 8 pillows to have it, in any way, emulate an actual normal pillow. You do get a pillow menu but they are for anti allergy and neck support pillows. They didn't offer "standard" pillows. I had to use the chair cushion and on the last night the dressing gown to support my head.

I have attached pictures of our room and view.

Location is great dependant on your needs. There are a number of places around the lunch and evening meals, the transport links like all of Berlin are superb(U-Bahn,S-Bahn and R-Bahn). Shopping is right on your doorstep. Take a trip to KaDaWe(Europes largest Department Store).

Would we return? Yes but we would like to maybe stay around the Mitte district next.

Swissotel is a classic noughties minimalist hotel built in a very high quality. Staff are extremely kind and professional- I asked for an early check-in for Monday in an email Sunday afternoon- they responded and hav mananaged that I am able to check in at 1130! Athough at first the room was on a lower floor, at my request they moved me into a higher one- where the view is indeed better. In any case, if you have the budget to stay there, do stay in the Ku'damm view rooms as the internal courtyard is quite sterile to look at.

The room is very comfortable, with big desk and a very comfy lounge bed to do your reading. The gym is indeed on the small sidebut with ample cardio rooms.

Maybe the only little downsize is the breakfast- at 21 Euro i would have appreciated a little more attantion to detail (melon cuttings included raw bits, the swiss bircher musli was quite poor and the quality of pastries was also mediocre)- these are minor things, but this is a hotel aiming to be in the top bracket.....

For anyone in a business trip or a weekend getaway with a focus on the West side, this is a very good choice!

Room Tip: rooms wih a ku'damm view

A good choice for anyone who likes comfort. I chose this hotel because of its good reputation and it didn't disappoint me. The food was incredibly delicious. The staff were so friendly and helpful that I felt almost at home. The hotel is clean and it's a pleasure to walk its tastfully decorated corridors.

We stayed here last week for 3 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is in the perfect location for all your needs around Berlin. The majority of sight seeing is within walking distance of the hotel. All the hotel staff are really friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are nice and big and cater for all your needs. The only negative I would mention are the beds are quite hard but managable. Overall we had a great stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

We have just got back from a 4 day trip at the Swissotel Berlin and have to thank them for the fantastic service we received. We stayed in the standard room which was more than big enough for 2 people. The double bed was in fact 2 beds together but that only made it really big and we found it/them comfortable. The storage space in some hotel rooms is poor but not so at the Swissotel. There were plenty of drawers, a sizeable wardrobe and space to hang coats etc, as well as adequate storage space for the suitcases. The cleaning of the room was spot-on and the housekeeping worked extremely hard in the rooms and around the public areas.
The staff on reception, the doormen and especially the bar staff were a real credit to the company - they couldn't do enough for you. A special thank you to the 2 males on duty in the bar who gave us information about getting to the Olympic Stadium and Potsdam. They went off to get us accurate details on travelling by S Bahn and as a result we had a great visit. They seemed to work long hours in the bar area but didn't rush anyone.
The company obviously have taken on the criticisms in some reviews as the Wifi in the reception was free to us and we didn't have to pay to print off our boarding passes. My husband used the fitness centre several times and felt that the equipment there was of a very good standard. We both used the sauna and there are plenty of towels, dressing gowns and slippers to use afterwards. We went out each day and either walked or used our Berlin Welcome Cards to visit lots of the sites, and coming back to this hotel at the end of a tiring day still made us feel that the enjoyable experience didn't end when we were in our room.
Like others we didn't eat in the hotel as we wanted to visit different restaurants and felt that if the breakfast was 21 Euros then the meals in Restaurant 44 would probably be very expensive as well. We managed to get a deal - stay 3 nights get the 4th free so overall we felt it was well worth it. The location is very near the transport terminus so it is easy to get out and about, however most historical sites aren't that close. There is excellent shopping in the locality which I particularly enjoyed, not so sure my husband did!
We would go again to a Swissotel if they are all as good as this one. It was the icing on the cake for a very enjoyable first trip to Germany. Thank you to all the hard working staff.

Room Tip: On 5th floor facing the courtyard - no noise disturbed us.

We stayed for 3 nights over Christmas. The location is great - a couple of minutes walk fromthe tube station from which travelling all over the city is easy. The hotel was immaculate and the service we encountered from the reception staff was fantastic - the best we have recieved at any hotel. They could not have been more helpful.

The room service and housekeeping staff also provided an excellent service. The room service breakfast was huge - one was enough for two people. The room has a good coffee maker, the only thing I could say to improve would be to provide more milk! The staff bought to our room a lovely little complimentary nut/sweet dish to celebrate Christmas.

The room was spacious, clean and the bath was sooo deep! We used the computer/internet they provide for use free of charge in reception to print our return tickets - very useful!

Overall, we had a great stay and would not hesitate to stay at a Swissotel again on the basis of our excellent stay at the Swissotel Berlin.
