Owner description: In the 1970s, Alexanderplatz became an experiment in socialist urban aesthetics. The square is the home to the World Time Clock, a continually rotating installation that shows the time around the globe and Hermann Henselmann’s Haus des Lehrers.

Its a good place to do some shopping, people watch, buy show tickets or catch a bus or train. We were there fairly often because of the train station and the lovely big department store.

Very much a concrete bowl and a throwback to to the pre-Wall era. However, you have to go as it is one of the places to go in Berlin. It does have a rich historical past though and is easily accessible from all parts of the city and the airports. There are some large department stores nearby which must have been a good sent for the former inhabitants of the east of Berlin. A few good bars and restaurants nearby

Alexanderplatz is a "point of interest" located in centre of the former East Berlin. When you walk on the Alexanderplatz you get the feeling that you're still living in the Communist DDR. The buildings on the square look very dated and evoke the typical Communist gray atmosphere. Compared to the Potsdamer Platz, this is definitely not the most beautiful square in Berlin. For me, the only reason to visit this square is the view of the immense and impressive Fernsehturm. The 368 metres high Berliner Fernsehturm (which you also find semi-finished next to Berlin-Schönefeld airport) can be spotted from all over the city. Therefore it’s a very good landmark and meeting point for tourists. In front of the Berliner Fernsehturm you can also find a nice and pleasant constructed square with the Neptunbrunnen. This place is well worth a visit.

Starting with the S-Bahn station, the whole area is a big letdown. Fortunately, there are other things to see in the area, as soon as you get away from this square.
