Went to Berlin for just two days from Munich at the last minute, so wasn't able to spend a lot of time looking around for the best hotel regarding value and location. This hotel was inexpensive, available, and looked somewhat centrally located. The actual experience: fabulous! The hotel is in the northeast end of downtown... right near a subway and tram line, but also within walking distance of most of the major sights. Not a five minute walk... but still doable. The street, Oranienburger Strasse is lined with restaurants and a few shops. You can walk down it, towards Alexanderplatz and have a multitude of choices of places to eat. (We ate at the Singapore style restaurant across the street which was excellent without being overly expensive, and took credit cards, which many places in Munich do not). The room was simple, but clean and comfortable. I was very happy to see a European shower that had shower doors instead of no shower curtain or door. Had an excellent night sleep on a nice firm, but comfortable bed. My sister, who had been to Berlin before and stayed near the zoo, said that I picked the best hotel, in the best location possible! We did notice on our walk back down Oranienburger Strasse at 10:30 at night, some woman who were most likely prostitutes. I don't think this was a reflection on the safety or type of neighborhood the hotel was in. The streets were full of outdoor cafes with people hanging out and enjoying themselves. Tons of people walked the street. It felt similar to a night in New York City or LA. I can't say whether or not the hotel was quiet as we were both exhausted when we got back to the hotel and we slept like "babies"... but it definitely was not anything that would keep us awake. (We heard nothing while we were awake.) One tip: If you don't want to pay EURO$20/ DAY for hotel parking, there is a surface lot on the same block. For our two day stay, it cost us about EURO$16. I don't know if the hotel would have charged us for one or two days, but either way, it was cheaper.

We stayed in a Junior Suite on the sixth floor for seven days. The hotel is in a great location – there are tons of restaurants and coffee shops outside the door and you can walk to many of the city’s attractions (the metro and bus are also very close). Despite being on the street, it was quiet at night with the windows closed. The junior suite is a really nice space - we loved the floor to ceiling windows and street view. The couch and dining table are very comfortable too. But there were a few things that kept us from giving the hotel a higher rating. The bathroom is really small and the kitchenette shouldn’t be called a kitchenette – it is just a minibar. There is a mini fridge, sink (no dish soap or sponge), and two-burner cooktop (no pots or dishes). (Suggestion: replace the cooktop with a small microwave and provide basic dishes like plates and silverware). The TV channels did not match the channels listed in the room information book (there were no international news channels). The CD player didn’t work, but we played the cool in-room CDs on our PC. On the last night we turned on the floor lamp and it began to smoke. There were also a few communication challenges when we made the reservation and airport transfer arrangements, but all turned out fine. There is a cool bar in the lobby, but we didn’t try it. If you want a central location with great view and don’t consider bathroom space, kitchenette, and international TV as must haves, you will like the junior suite at Arcotel Velvet.

It’s an affordable place. The room was basic but it had a nice touch which was apples. When we arrived we saw apples and I thought that was nice of the hotel. Bathroom was okay nothing surprising. We didn’t eat at the restaurant there so I can’t command on their food. Their service was nice – well trained staffs. If you are looking for a luxury and something out of the ordinary then this is not the place for you. Arcotel hotel is an affordable hotel with the basic accessories. If you are looking for a place to stay for few nights and budget friendly then this is it.

Overall I was pleased with my stay at Velvet. The room is nice facing the main street. They have huge window, so people might can see from the outside. So you have to close with the curtains - but that doesnt bother me. They dont serve breakfast but there's a restaurant connecting to the hotel, also many cafes around the corner. The wifi only available in the lobby. But if you're staying on the 5th floor and up, you can get wifi (ask for password). Staff are friendly and helpful. The location of this hotel is good - ubahn 6 "Oranienburger Tor" is minutes away, tram station is just across the street and there are many restaurants in the surrounding.

I feel so disappointed with our overall experience at Arcotel Velvet. I had booked a Junior Suite for 4 nights for my husband's 50th birthday and the hotel had been recommended to me by my sister and a close friend.
However we arrived in our suite to find that the electric shutters in our room weren't working so we phoned reception. We were told another suite was available but when we got up there we found it was half the size and at the back of the hotel. I didn't want to spend 4 nights there so we phoned reception and were told there were no other rooms available, so we asked to move back to our first room. She did not explain that the room upstairs would be for one night only and her manner was really cold and unfriendly. I slept really badly as the windows are really huge and the room looks onto the street. We were told they would fix the shutters but we were told that evening that they needed a new part and so we had to move room again. Luckily this time a Junior Suite was available but it took us over an hour to move all our stuff as we had unpacked. Hardly how you want to be spending the first day of a romantic getaway!
I complained to reception the following morning and was told I could get a reduction of 10% off our 114 Euro first night's bill. I felt this was inadequate, so I spoke to the manageress and voiced my complaints- the main one being that the night receptionist was really unfriendly throughout and that we had slept really badly. I thought she offered me a reduction of 100 Euros and agreed to this, believing our complaints had been listened to.
We checked out on the Saturday morning and found to our dismay we were being charged 100 Euros for our 1st night- a reduction of only 14 Euros. I wrote a letter of complaint and left it at reception as there was no one from management available
It's a real shame because the hotel is a nice location, the reception staff during the day are lovely and Matthias at night is also so nice. What makes all this so much worse is that I have complained to their office in Berlin who gave me no satisfaction saying the reduction of 14 Euros for the 1st night was "reasonable". I even emailed their CEO saying how stressed and unhappy the start of our stay had made me feel but he backed up his management staff.
The hotel room is full of glossy literature saying that they pride themselves on customer service- don't be fooled by this. From reading other reviews here, they seem fine if nothing goes wrong, but they haven't a clue how to treat customers who feel badly treated. I feel so let down by them.
