“DESIGN hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2009

We found Hotel Q on the internet and spent four nights there. Our reason for going to Berlin was to have a short romantic break, and since we love design hotels we looked for one in Berlin. - And Hotel Q surely lived up to our expectations!

We arrived quite late (around 23.00) and the first thing that meets you is the red coulours. It may sound cheap, but trust us saying it doesn't look that way when you are there.

The hotel is quite small and narrow, and similarly the rooms aren't that big. However, they don't feel that small as they are filled with nice details. E.g. the bathroom is integrated in the living area, so you actually sleep right next to the tub. May sound crazy and weird but it works. Please note that it is not all rooms which has a tub - remember to ask for one.

On the ground floor you find the lounge/nightclub, which also serves as restaurant for both breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is almost over-designed, but really cool. On top of this the staff at the hotel is extremely professional and serviceminded. We started out living in a room without a tub, and wanted to move. First of all it was no problem - and it didn't cost extra - but they actually offered us to move our bags, so the new room would be ready when we returned from a day with sightseeing.

Finally we will mention the breakfast which is absolutely fantastic! They offer more or less the same as at other hotels, but it is all much much nicer. Small details as the eggs prepared your way with basil and tomatoes or whatever you like, the use of only top produces, great selection of full grain bread, small portions of youhurt which tastes as it doesn't come from Danone etc. etc.

In other words a fantastic hotel - only downside is found in the rooms: the toilet is seperate from the rest of "the bathroom" so there is no sink here.

We had a couple of nights at the Hotel Q and loved it.
Good sized double bedroom with great bath next to the bed , infront of the flat screen telly... what more can you ask for?! Aveda products, clean, ipod station.
lovely staff on the front desk. clean cool spa, with sand room for relaxing,
good location for the ´´posh´´ end shops.and walking distance to the famous department store which has the most amazing foodhall.
Good restaurants all round, mainly right out of the door, ask the reception to recommend you.
jump on the number 200 bus for a round trip tour of Berlin rather than the tourist bus.
Up in the East, there is a feel of ´new york, greenwich villagey, with great small boutiques and vintage shops. .
the only slight slight thing would be more comprehensive room info, better map, and maybe a cheaper breakfast...at 20 euros per person, we nipped out for our coffee and cake, as we couldnt possibly justify 40 euros a couple... unless you eat and eat and eat. but we are planning a return next year

We stayed three nights as part of a combined business trip, booking one of the Junior Suite rooms. We arrived too early for the room to be ready and staff were helpful in storing our luggage and giving us an indication as to when at the earliest the room could be ready.
The room had a pleasant layout (sofa, flat screen TV, large bed, open space bathroom) with excellent design although this is now common in that type of hotel. Plenty of extras such as the Wii console. Room service is palatable and efficient. Staff were helpful throughout the stay in giving indications and getting taxis. The special offer we took was great value for money without cutting on the service. Very good location as well not far from the former French zone which is home to many nice place and designer shops (not sure the best bargains will be found there, though).

  • Liked — Design, atmosphere, spacious room, fittings
  • Disliked — rooftop croom uts a bit of volume (but you get a tiny balcony)

Nestled away on a quite street of Ku,Dam, the exterior is an unassuming grey building. Once you step inside it has the cool factor from minimalist decor to the red carpet and white walls throughout. It is quite small, reception just as you come through main door, bar on the same floor and lounge area where buffet breakfast is served for 20 euro per person. Dinner each evening which is mainly Thai. Only residents and members can use the bar and facilities.
The bedrooms again are minimalist with the bath beside the bed. Mini bar full of all sorts..mmm...double lollipops??
There is a spa area downstairs which did'nt get to use. Not sure if that's because it's a naked area or because we were busy sightseeing but my excuse is the sightseeing..
The location of this hotel is great. In a really nice area of Berlin, close to designer and boutique stores. lots of lovely restaurants nearby including Jules vernes which serves lovely breakfast.
Overall this hotel is very cool but the test factor is would I stay here again and absolutely I would but next time I'll make it to the spa!

I had a great stay at the hotel Q! This is not a large hotel with massive facilities. Instead it is a small hotel with friendly staff, a cool bar and great breakfasts. The staff were always helpful, both in the bar and at the front desk with suggestions about other bars and restaurants. The location is good too, in a quiet side street just off the KuDam.

My favourite design hotel ever!!! I love it. Located in Kurfurstendamm (nice neighbourhood in the former western Berlin, main shopping street) it is now a bit far for the main city attractions, although there is a tram nearby and plenty of taxis around. 300 m to Savignyplatz packed with bars and restaurants. The room layout is futuristic, mainly in black and white, with the bathroom close to the bed, a/c, bathrobes and quality toiletries. It features a spa, solarium and sauna. The lounge bar is decorated in red and chrome, and a clever lighting that make your drink a very pleasant experience. Beautiful, modern, it’s worth a visit. Highly recommended.

"Designer" boutique hotels can be hit and miss, but this was definitely more hit . The slide down from the bath into the bed, the irreverant staff and the great Q special cocktail they were serving when we stayed all helped push this one into the "hit" category.

The hotel is well located for getting to most of Berlin's best clubs and also for walking through the park across the city during the day. Almost everything in the room is white, and the corridors and reception are bathed in red light. The view from our window was not great but Berlin is hardly the city in which you spend time looking out of your window (or even that long in the roon).

The bed was fine - one thing to be careful of is that it is easy to lose things down the side of the mattress, in which case you need to pull up the whole mattress to retrieve them. A minor point.

The bathroom is fun, there a perfectly adequate shower and then a bath next to the bed with a slide down into the bed (well, it's probably not meant to be a slide). A lot of fun.

This type of hotel really needs to keep the maintenance up if it is to carry off it's moody red theme. This does that well on the whole.
