“Excellent position, only 4 stop to/from Alexander Platz”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

Hi there! I have been in this hotel for 6 nights during my last visit in Berlin. The room was clean, as well as the services and toilet. It is placed in Est Berlin, between the famous East Side Gallery and Alexander Platz to which there are only four stop with underground. The breakfast is plentful, and the staff is truly kind. There are many restaurants and fast food in the neighbourhood.

This hotel is a no-frills establishment, but it's clean, the breakfast is richly continental, the staff is friendly, the location is in a good neighborhood, and the price is right.
Cons: Be prepared to carry your luggage up or down steps as the elevator stops at landings between the bedroom floors. Sometimes the room cleaning personnel is less than consistent with their job.
Pros: Free Wi-Fi. A city bus to the Ostbahnhof (DB & S-Bahn) stops 20 meters from the front door, a tram stop is 50 meters away, and getting to the subway takes less than a 10-minute walk. Two small markets are located right across the street, and a small drugstore is located within 80 meters. Most of the Friedrichshain restaurants are less than a 10-minute walk from the hotel.
Tip: Make arrangements with the hotel receptionist if you plan to arrive after 10 PM.

That's a small hotel in a good location.
Location is good, transportation options very good, but what makes this small hotel get in the first row of the hotels i have stayed is the reception desk service. It was kind, friendly, always quick and definitely responsive.
This is not a 5* hotel, so it would be naive to expect 5* amenities, still the service was equal to the service i have received in 5* hotels. 3* candid hotel here.

Location: Friedrichshain. Very good location, felt definitely safe. Loads of cafeterias or small restaurants in 3 - 5 minutes walking distance. Hotel is across the street of a block having many cafeterias and restaurants, so it enjoys proximity to those, without having any noise problems. Two hares in the hat.

Noise: Quiet hotel, my room looked in a big internal courtyard between the buildings of the block. Definitely quiet, i had absolutely no problem.

Transportation: Vey good. 5 minutes walking distance to a metro line ( U - Bahn ) getting you directly to Alexanderplatz. 15 minutes walking distance to the other direction gets you to another U-Bahn station getting you direct to Schöneberg and Kurfürstendamm. This direct line may be 15 minutes walking time away but is a huge plus, since it is a direct trip avoiding the lengthy connections. Bus right outside the hotel door. Tram right in the corner, less than 2 - 3 minutes walking distance. Transportation options are plenty and you 'll be able to cover a lot of things in Berlin.

Bathrooms: Very small, but i don't think you came to Berlin to have a spa experience. You 'll hardly spend anytime in the bathroom if what you are after is sightseeing.

Rooms: Sizes vary. They are Spartan, but that comes along a friendly price tag. Definitely clean. Size is ok. Not huge, not a shoe box as other hotel rooms in Berlin. My stay was 6 nights which is a long stay and felt very good.

Public spaces: That's a small hotel. Not a corporate feeling at all, which, for me is a good thing after years of travelling. Public spaces are not expanded, that's a relatively small building turned into an apartment hotel. They have a home-like feeling, not a corporate identity feeling. It felt very hospitable.

Breakfast: It costs less to have a breakfast in the hotel than going out, so give it a try. Breakfast is consisted by a small coffee / tea station and a plate full of goodies and a basket with super tasty bread served when you are seated. Cereals / muesli are also available next the coffee station. Basket of bread included two huge rolls of different bread, slices of German breads, jam and honey along with a small bowl of 3 - 4 different kinds of butter ( how thoughtful to include Becel proactive in there among normal butter ). Plate includes ham, cheese, salami, some butter too, plus boiled egg and yoghurt. Quantity is more than enough, no buffet waiting lines which was a huge plus, ample coffee and a very good price tag for the breakfast. Definitely an energy booster for a hard sightseeing day. Coffee station is available from early am till appx. 10pm, so you can always take a break having a coffee before leaving again for sightseeing. Another thoughtful touch.

Reception desk Service: That's the highlight of the establishment. Varied members of the hotel are fluent in different languages. I definitely counted German, English, Espagnol and i think Russian among others. I was always warmly greeted, reception desk was quick at anything i have asked. Service has all the times been kind with a smile which left me with warm feelings for this hotel. Check in was super fast. Tickets for public transportation were readily available in the reception desk.

Again: what would make me stay in this hotel again would be the kind of service i received and the home / not corporate feeling, along with the friendly price tag. Location is good, Berlin is super, so, go for it!

Would i suggest it? Definitely yes.

We stayed there last week for 5 nights room only and were perfectly happy with our stay. The hotel is in great location in Warschauer Strasse which is a lively area and great for spending your evenings, great restaurants and bars everywhere. Also close to public transport.
Most of the staff were friendly, only one female receptionist should look for another job as she was very rude on several occasions and definitely spoiled the experience at Juncker's Hotel. Our room was spacious and very clean, window to the back, so no noise at all.
Would definitely stay at Juncker's again, great value for money.

I booked a stay here recently with booking.com, received a confirmation e-mail and the hotel deducted full payment from my bank account. However, when I arrived at the hotel they claimed to have no record of my reservation. Eventually the girl at reception found my booking in a folder in the cupboard, apologised and said it was the hotel's error - but added that as they were fully booked I could only be offered a refund or an inferior room without a bathroom. I could barely believe what was happening, and was genuinely upset as it was birthday and - like most people - I could do without this nonsense. In the end I decided to take a full refund and find a hotel nearby, which set me back an extra £75 than I would otherwise have paid.

Juncker's did pay for my taxi to the next hotel, but otherwise didn't seem to care about the inconvenience and distress they had caused. I suppose if your hotel is fully occupied you don't need to worry.

I obviously can't comment on what this hotel is like to actually stay in, but if you don't want to risk having your holiday disrupted then I would highly recommend staying somewhere that has a better approach to customer care.

This hotel is in the Friedrichshain area of what was East Berlin. This is not a tourist area but then I avoid tourist areas when I can to get the real feel of a place. The nearest mainline station is Berlin Ostbahnhof and the No 240 bus, direction Storckower Strasse ,starts outside the station and the bus stop is outside the hotel (1.40 Euros). This is a family hotel which also has some apartments. Once you have been given your key you retain it and come and go via a side door as and when you want. I had room no.23 which looks onto a courtyard and was both quite and cool.(Price 59.00 Euros including breakfast but this included an early booking discount). At the end of the road is tram route M10 which is respectively 2/3 stops from Warschauerstrasse S-bahn or U-bahn (line M1) stations. The hotel has a good selection of maps and sells BBV tickets, get a day ticket. They even posted a day ticket to me which enabled me to take off as soon as I arrived in Berlin about mid-day!
Breakfast was good with a good selection. Nearby is Simon Dach Strasse which has a wide selection of restaurants, even one which sells German food! This is the "100 Wasser" and has a menu with English sub-titles, some English is also spoken. So if you want to get a feel of non-tourist Berlin whilst still being able to access the tourist spots this is the place to stay.
Finally, if you want to visit The Wall and don't want the hassle of changes, just catch the M10 tram to it's terminus at Nordbahnhof but don't expect to find a station there ,The Wall was built more or less across it.
