We're retired and have therefore become budget travelers. We had four destinations in Germany and our goal was to find in each one an acceptable hotel for under $100 per night. This is not an easy task, especially in expensive cities like Berlin! The IBIS Potsdamer Platz was a great option. IBIS is one of the hotel chains now owned by Accor Hotels. On the IBIS website we booked a double room for 49 Euros per night! (Full disclosure: this rate was restricted to payment in advance and was non-refundable, but we had trip insurance so it was worth taking the risk). The rate did not include breakfast but we paid the 10 Euros each to eat breakfast there -- a great buffet. We both need at least three cups of coffee to get going in the morning, and when you consider that a single cup of coffee on the street is 2 Euros or more, the buffet with all the coffee you can drink is a relative bargain! So with breakfasts our daily rate was 69 Euros per night which is still a fantastic price for two people. Many of the hostel/hotels in Berlin were considerably more expensive than that for two people in a private room.

This appears to be one of the newer IBIS hotels -- both the room and the bathroom (en suite) were very spacious with adequate closet and storage space. Our room was on the 7th floor on the street side. The street is very quiet and we often had the window open overnight without experiencing street noise. The front desk staff were universally friendly and helpful. There are two computers in the lobby offering free internet access.

From the window we could see Potsdamer Platz and the Bundestag dome. The "Topography of Terror" museum is a block away.

The hotel is about a 15 minute leisurely walk to Potsdamer platz. There is a subway line 1/2 block from the hotel. Bus No. 41, also 1/2 block away, connects the hotel to the main train station (only about 15 minutes in normal traffic or about 10 minutes in light traffic), Bus No. 29, also 1/2 block away, takes you to Nollendorf Platz where KDW is located (Europe's largest department store with a food section not-to-be-missed!). For you late-nighters, several night buses will take you to Potsdamer Platz.

Stayed here for two nights and wasn't disappointed. Before I booked I searched through loads of hotels on tripadvisor and all top rated ones where too pricey or had "strange" things like the possibility of single beds in the room etc.
Too cut a long story short, I got tired of searching and comparing and booked the Ibis for the great special rate of only 49Euros a night.
The location itself is not special or touristy but you are quite close to many sights. There are plenty of places to eat in not too far distance and the S-Bahn stop directly opposite.
The service we experienced was incredibly friendly and helpful...although we arrived very early in the morning we could leave the luggage and get a room much earlier than the official check-in time.
Another plus is the free internet on the two computers in the lobby.
The room is basic and not very stylish but who would expect that for this price!?
We didn't have breakfast there but there is a Cafe in the same road where you can eat for less until 4 in the afternoon.
So all in all a very pleasant stay and we will definitely return!

If you're familiar with the Ibis concept, this will not be a surprise to you. This is a very good central location for Berlin. 2 min walk to Anhalter S-Bahn station, 15 min walk to Potsdamer Platz, 10 min walk to Checkpoint Charlie. Restaurants and groceries around. Fair size room, good price (you can get a very good deal when booking 21 days in advance non-redundable), good showers.

Only cons are no free wifi in rooms (2 computers downstairs, often busy), and no safe.

Hotel Ibis in Potzdamer was fine , after reading some reviews about it i was prepared for the worst, but this is a nice hotel in a great location. The receptionists were friendly and efficient, and gave me a room on 6th floor looking out over the city... well...out over a disused carpark with the city in the background! The room was clean and while there was no tea/coffee or any treats to be seen, the bed was comfortable, the ensuite was small but functional. The bar downstairs was nice for a late night drink before bed. So on the whole, the hotel is fine... nothing outstanding, but not dissapointing either. Location is near the S Bahn and easy to walk to Potzdamer Platz and to Reichstag Brandenburg etc

Did not have high expectations when checking in to this hotel, but despite that I left disappointed. The receptionist was very unfriendly and did not make you feel welcome. The room was clean and reasonably large but the bed was not very comfortable. The bathroom was clean but quite small and "plastic".

The hotel boasts about all rooms being air conditioned, and they all are. what they don't tell you is that they only turn it on when the temperature outside climbs over 25 Celsius. We stayed at the hotel in July, and I can tell that when it's 23 degrees outside the room gets warm. The reception told me the reason for having the air conditioner turned of was environmental. This is very noble, but if I am to pay for an air conditioned room I think it would be up to me how much of an environmentalist I like to be. The recommendation I got was to open a window, the room we had was facing the street and having the window open made the room very noisy from all the traffic outside.

The Location, however, is good, close to many of the more popular sites.

We booked this hotel at the train station. The location was great to see the sights since we walked to all the locations. The hotel was very clean and we had excellent service. The only problem occurred when we booked the room it was supposed to have air conditioning. However, when we got into the room I called the front desk to let them know that the A/C wasn't working. The receptionist told us that the A/C isn't turned on until the outside tempature was above 80 degree farenhiet. The receptionist came up and opened our window, but it was still warm.
