“Comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014

Even though I have only slept in Hotel Johann for one night, I was quite happy with quality of the hotel. It was good value for money. Don't expect anything spectacular however: a comfortable bed and shower as well as a decent shower. The internet connection was reliable. The building and its surroundings were quite anonymous. Its distance from public transport was a bit more than you would expect according to Berlin standards.

Such a fabulous, friendly hotel. All of the things you need, without the price gouging you get at big chains. Great location, breakfast was very nice. Very affordable laundry service (price per load, not per piece of clothing). I'll be staying here on every trip to Berlin. Looking forward to a visit soon!

My husband, daughter and I stayed at this lovely hotel for 4 nights a few days ago. We had a very comfortable room with a lovely modern bathroom and very comfortable beds. The room was airy and light. The breakfast was excellent and served in a delightful sunny room. The location is central (about 10mins walk to the u bahn which takes about 5 mins to the centre) but the hotel is in a very quiet residential area near the canal with very little through traffic- it's so peaceful you wouldn't believe that you're so near central Berlin. The staff were very helpful and cheerful and there was a cosy small bar too. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anybody visiting Berlin.

Room Tip: We had room 303 which I'd recommend

What a lovely hotel.

We stayed for 4 nights to visit Berlin and run the half marathon. The hotel is perfectly located in a semi-residential area so it's quiet at night but within walking distance of touristy sights like Checkpoint Charlie and 2 different u-bahn stations are 10 minutes away so you can get anywhere in Berlin anytime you want.

Our room was so lovely and huge (203) and had a great sized bed that was so comfortable (no efficient hard German beds here!) and our bathroom was also huge with heated floors and a massive shower and tub with great waterpressure! No shampoo or conditioner (just the combo shower gel stuff) so bring your own.

The breakfast was so good and we filled up each morning on a great selection of granolas and museli with yoghurt or milk. Loads of different types of breads (with and without leavening agents) and so many meats and cheeses you could eat like a queen. Different types of tea and coffee available but you had to pay for cappuccinos and such (I didn't see anyone getting one the whole time we were there - the coffee was delightful as is)/

The staff was really helpful when we needed walking directions and burger restaurant recommendations (very hungry runners after the race!) It was a very warm weekend so we had the windows open in our room and just loved the fresh breeze in the morning.

Highly recommended and we will be back next time we are in Berlin.

Room Tip: 203 is huge and has a tub

We stayed a week in this lovely hotel. The design of the rooms have been very well thought out: very comfortable beds, masses of hangers, which is rare, fabulous strong shower and a beautiful door to the bathroom. Just one minor point, the towels were a bit small.
The staff were incredibly friendly and even put up with me trying out my abysmal German.

We shall certainly be back.

If you're visiting Berlin as a tourist you might want to find somewhere closer to the centre of town - this hotel is in the southern part of the city, about 45 mins walk to tourist sites like the Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and over an hour to Brandenburg Gate and Parliament. But of course you can use public transport or taxis to get about, which are reasonable.
Inside the hotel is nice and modern, with white or bare brick walls and contemporary artwork all around. It's staffed by a friendly trendy crew. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious and stylish, but our "double" room had 2 single beds next to each other; this might just be a German thing. The breakfast buffet was adequate, though I would prefer croissants to german roles, and the option of toast.
Bathtowels could have been bigger and more fluffy. But my only big criticism was that they only gave us 1 litre of mineral water in our room (free) on the first day. Thereafter we had to buy it at 2.6 euro a bottle. Why be so tight? My 2nd and 3rd room nights didn't cost any less, so why can't they give a free bottle of water every day?!
My final criticism is that we only had 1 very soft pillow each, which just didn't support my head enough and lead to an uncomfortable sleep.
