The exhibits here are quite good, but it is very small and hardly worth going out of your way to visit. Time would be better spent visiting the Permanent Exhibition at the Information and Documentation Center of the Federal Commissioner for the Files of the State Security Service of the Former GDR (IDZ) at Zimmerstrasse 90/91 near Checkpoint Charlie where admission is free and an Audio Guide is also provided free of charge.
This Museum is also free and is easily accessible from U-Bahn Eberswalder (U2)

A very well done, informative museum in the Kulturbrauerei in Prenzlauerberg. Information available in German and English. Great insight into everyday life in the DDR.

Having visited the Stasi museum I wanted to find out more about how ordinary people lived under the regime in the DDR, and came across this "Alltag in der DDR" exhibition in what was a former brewery complex. It was beautifully presented with fascinating exhibits, archive film footage, and home movies bringing to life both the hardships people endured, and their enjoyment of family life and special occasions. I loved the green Trabi with the tent on top too. This exhibition is highly recommended, and is free.

Forget the DDR Museum and come here instead; it is free and much more comprehensive. They have a green Trabi, DDR foodstuffs, videos, flags, history - everything you will want to know about the DDR.

The museum in the Kulturbrauerei complex is brandnew and for free. You really get a lot of insights from the life in former East-Germany. Many personal stories and the society structures of those days are well presented to the audience of the museum. My personal favorite of the museum is the green Trabi with a tent on the roof. I can definitely recommend this museum for a visit when you are around. Compared to the DDR-museum close the museum island it is less interactive.
