Edgar Schmidt von Groeling is an Individualist. When he realized Berlin was missing a Hotel ingredient, which is Basic in Paris and other European cities, he bought an old hostelboat anchored in a Rhine river port, took the upper deck off and towed it to Berlin via Inland waterways.Upper deck installed again it serves the purpose meant for near the East RR Station in the vicinity of the historic Hohenbaumbrücke - famous during the Cold War.
I have stayed there every once in a while and still like it at 78 - appreciating its simplicity and the Spirit with which it is run. One always meets a gang of locals mixing with world travellers of any Age. Grandparents invite their grandchildren to the rare opportunity to stay overnight on a boat. The bar on the upperdeck is large enough for small special interest Groups from the Creative Class and provides Stimulation to foreigners. Highly recommended for individualistsMore
