“Not your everyday 5 star but a quaint little hotel near train station.”
Reviewed 20 November 2013

Got a cab from the train station to the hotel. He laughed when given the address. 2 minutes later we arrived. Off the beaten path little hotel. Had to go down 5 steps to get to desk. Waiting room was large enough for 1 chair and a local attraction display. Behind the desk was a breakfast area with about 7 tables and seating for 20.

We checked in and the clerk told us to follow her to our room. Back up the steps (would have been nice to know before we hauled luggage down steps) to the street area. Walked about 20 feet from the door and came to another double door at the top of 3 steps. The clerk used our key to open the door into a small lobby and 6 more steps to the entrance foyer. Our friends used their key to open the door to the left and we used ours to open another door to the right. Inside our door was 5 rooms. We had the first room on the right and used our key to get into our room. We were surprised at first sight. Did not expect a room this nice for the price we paid. The bed was two twins shoved together, like on a cruise ship. The bathroom was the size of a cruise ship also, except the shower was smaller. The bedroom was large and offered seating for two and a desk.

Breakfast was good for a European hotel. Plenty of pastries, breads and coffee. Offered hardboiled eggs and fresh fruit and a toaster for the bread.

Be aware that this is also an apartment building. Once you enter the main doors and go up the steps, there are several mailboxes. Steps continue on up past the hotel area to the apartments upstairs.

Room Tip: If you have trouble with steps, you do not want to stay here. No elevator but several sets of steps...

This hotel has two buildings. We stayed in the one next door to the main facility. I requested two twins and received a mini apartment. Two separate bedrooms with sinks and a shared bathroom.

Very clean. Great breakfast and helpful staff.

Location close to main station, river and nightlife.

Highly recommend it.

I stayed in Hotel Amelie for 3 nights, the staff were very friendly and stayed later than usual as our plane was slightly delayed.

We stayed in the annex next door which was quiet and wouldn't really be a problem going next door for breakfast, however the breakfast wasn't great for me so we didn't bother after the first day. It was pretty basic but I'm sure would do the job (tea/coffee, juice, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, toast etc).

Room was pretty basic and small but to be honest, we didn't spend a great deal of time there. It was kept clean if a little dated.

Location was excellent though, about 5 mins away to Friedrichstasse station which is a hub for the airport as well as other sights in Berlin. It was about 15 mins walk to Museum Island as well.

Just returned from our 3 night city break to Berlin. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Hotel Amelie was such good value, a typical accommodation for the region. Not perfect by any means as it is best described as basic and lacked attention to detail, however all the faults such as a cracked hand basin were forgiven thanks to the location. Almost every attraction in Berlin was in walking distance or minutes by train. Breakfast offered a good choice of continental fayre (but lacking fresh fruit) and it was good enough to set us up for the day. All the staff we met were all friendly and helpful, the hotel and our room was kept clean daily. In conclusion we would certainly recommend this Hotel, given the chance we will return, but this time explore the art gallery in the DDR bunker (20 Reinhardt Str.) opposite and also revisit the lovely Imbiss Café also on the street by the Theatre.

Reviewed 24 June 2013

We stayed in June for 3 nights and liked the location (close to trains etc). For €68 euros a night with breakfast, we thought this was good value. The room was basic, but all we needed for our stay. However, for this price do not expect friendly/helpful service. None of the staff look up from what they're doing to acknowledge your presence and asking for a train ticket to be printed was not possible. Also be prepared for no wifi. The hotel advises that every room has wifi, however we could never get it anywhere on the premises and we were told by reception that this was due to the thickness of the walls and offered no solution. Good stay for the money as long as you take the above into consideration.

We stayed 5 nights. The room was basic, but as all we needed was to wash and sleep that was fine. Good range of breakfast for a small hotel. When our light failed it was sorted that day. The location is good for restaurants, you can walk to many major sites and good public transport is near.
