“Excellent location for tourists”
Reviewed 11 September 2012

Everything about this hotel was excellent, especially the location, which is within 5 minutes walk of the train station and underground, 5-10 mins walk of Museum Island and 15-20 minutes walk to Brandenberg Gate and the Reichstag. Reception staff and concierge spoke good English and were very helpful. Our room was spacious and comfortable but had no view to speak of. Breakfasts and dinner were very good, even if a little crowded at breakfast time. Dinner at the hotel was restaurant quality as was the tapas bar on the ground floor (the hotel is apparently owned by a Spanish company). The only negative about this hotel was the lack of a cash machine, but the reception will change money.

There are a lot of high quality hotels in Berlin and Germany. This makes me pickier when it comes to giving points to this hotel. Any hotel that in a major European capital does not provide free internet is not in my opinion worthy of 5 star s no matter how cheap the internet is. The cost for internet connection is either 5 euro for one hour, 20 euro for 10 hours (with this option you can use internet discontinuously), 10 euro per day or another monthly option.
The location of the hotel is very good considering the number of transport options available and in fact considered central part of former East Berlin.
The breakfast is ok, nothing fantastic and nothing bad.
The rooms are spacious and have nice amneties. The space for hanging clothes was however in line with most small hotel rooms and definitely was nothing to brag about.
The safe at least is for free. They provided me an XXL bathrobe with small slippers!
There are 22 TV channels and these are basically German in addition to few international channels. CNN and BBC world are the only English speaking channels.
I found the staff attentive and apologetic when I asked for internet price. Nonetheless, I have the policy of never staying at a hotel that charges for internet. This time I was invited for a lecture and the choice was not mine.

Room Tip: They asked me if I wish a room facing the street or backyard. I chose the one facing the street and...

I am sure, that you will enjoy a stay at Melia Berlin. Book a room at the Level with breakfast coffee and cake in the afternoon, tapas wine and drinks in the evening, including in the rates. The staff is very frindly, the rooms are very clean, and the River Spree is just afside the hotel, and only a mile to Brandenburger Tor, 400 m to Museums Insel. Go to Berlin and stay at Melia Berlin, Friedrichstrasse very close to Friedrichstrasse Train Station.

Room Tip: The Level room are on th. 7 or 8. floor!

Excellent location, right on the river and walking distance to most major sights and within a block of subway for venturing furtehr out. Very friendly, helpful staff. If you join the Mas affinity card (free), breakfast is 2 for 1, and it is excellent. Rooms very clean and comfortable. Through December 31, 2012, giving a 30 euro per day voucher for food in the very fine restaurants (tapas bar overlooking the river). Without a doubt, a winner.

We knew nothing of the Melia brand before choosing this hotel in Berlin, but its rating in Trip Advisor and features met our criteria when booking an early August stay. We booked the executive floor "On the Level" as other reviews had suggested and were completely satisfied. Having joined their club and making our own booking brought a 30 Euro p/d discount on hotel facilities if we used them, which we did only sparingly.

Our seventh floor room overlooked Friedrichstrasse and the River Spree so for the six days there we had much to watch from the room. Proximity to the Unter den Linden and the many museums nearby is a real plus. We tried the dining room for breakfast once but preferred the similar fare and personal service in the E. Lounge. The facilities and drinks etc in the evening always prove their worth. It must be particularly noted that in this hotel WIFI is only freely available in the Lounge. (This seems a consistent issue which hotels will have to overcome.)

We dined in the Restaraunt once: better than expected! Room and bedding etc were fine. Checkout was done with the ever efficient Nina Fiedler in the E. Lounge.

Thank you Melia, your rating is deserved. If in Berlin again this would be our choice.

Room Tip: Stay On the Level!!!

Very comfortable hotel, great breakfast, great location. We stayed here for one night - our wedding anniversary and splurged on the 'level' rooms - great pre-dinner nibblies and drinks included. While this hotel was really quite good, you do pay for it, and I can't say that it exceeded my expectations in any way.

An absolute gem of a hotel! We just returned from 5 glorious days at this hotel which is right in the centre of the city, not even a 5 minute walk from Freidrickstrasse station. The central location makes it perfect for touring the city, close proximity to Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden, and the beautiful Reichtag which is amazing. You must prebook to enter this fantastic building beforehand for security reasons but you will not be disappointed. The Melia is also close to the river, Museum Island, and many interesting, reasonable restaurants. The staff at the Melia were all helpful and accommodating in every way. We stayed in a lovely room on the "Level" floor which gave us free access to the lounge which served breakfast every morning, and a light dinner every evening from 6-10:00. The view from our room was outstanding! They always had drinks, fruit, and internet services available. I had a nasty cold when I arrived in Berlin and the staff in the lounge were always offering me hot tea with honey. I can't say enough about how nice everyone who works there was. They even downloaded our boarding passes when we left for the airport to come home. We will definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: It is worth it to pay extra to stay on the "Level" floor. A lot of extra perks!!!
